Michael Palin's adventures

Today's E-Mail
Hi Rodge:

My friend Anne and I were having tea this morning, and we just don't get the whole India-Pakistan thing.  I know of course about your undercover service in both countries; could you perhaps provide us with a key?

Best,
Tim R.
Hi Tim.  Perhaps I can.  See if this video of them going toe-to-toe helps.

As you can see, they attempt to kick each other in the bollocks, but keep missing. Good deal of frustration there.

The Ministry of Silly Walks could learn a thing or two from these folks.

It's hard to tell who the British influenced more. The poor bastards.

Pakistan split from British India in 1947 after the Brits had done their work.

Reminds me of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority from the University of Arkansas -- winners of the 2010 Sprite Step Off competition.

Peace out.

Pakistan didn't split. Ghandi gave the muslims half of Punjab, the traditional Sikh homeland in the post-colonial partition. Over a million people died in the ensuing year of cross-border violence. Lahore was the traditional capital of Punjab and the Sikhs....almost none live there now.

I lived three years in Punjab (India side) about 12 miles from this border. Passions still run deep there.
