Slow Stuff

Human Interface Here Boss

Every video I post here of a sudden plays in fits and starts. Are you experiencing the same problems?  There are so many "entities" now involved in "protecting" me from goblins that I almost feel like turning all these Avasts,Zone Alarms and what-nots off.

What do you mean by "fits and starts?"

I've noticed over the past several days that many videos I watch, not just here, take forever to load, will start and not buffer quickly causing them to stop while the buffer catches up.

Is that what you mean?

I use "noscript" and nothing starts without my permission. Youtube is not whitelisted, I need to give permission to each video. I tend not to watch a lot of videos so I can't say if it is worse than usual, but videos I have seem to work fine.

Don't turn them off. Many videos are loaded with viruses. You run them, they download, you're computer is infected.

Thanks jess, but I was just venting. Let me take this pill .... okay, all better.

Rodger, I called my provider and they did a speed test. From my home to them...blazing fast.

Then I go to other speed test sites and everything is at a crawl.

Never used to be like that.

Something's going on and I doubt it's your computer.

I tried disabling my firewall and shut off ALL file sharing. Cleared cache ad cookies. Re-booted. No change.

Has to be the intra-tubes acting up. Hopefully others have noticed so that I do not go on thinking it's me who's crazy.

Local, and regional internet can be flakey. Bandwidth may be lessened due to a number of reasons, including a pesky contractor cutting a fiber optics cable.

Only so much info can be crammed through a cable. When it loads up, there's more wait time for information packets to be sent and received.

I am on FIOS and the speed is supposed to be lightning fast. It has latency of 95ms right now and the download speed is between 1.5 and 2 mbps which is slow for this service. My son who used to love the service for his Worlds of Warcraft game was telling me it was cutting out and had wicked latency. I am paying premium price for sucky service. I am going to TRY to get some help.

I had the same problem, Rodge. It's got something to do with FF and Flash Player. Update both, clear your cache, reboot machine, take two shots of your best Scotch and call me in the morning. Carry on ;)

The latest flash DRMs are monstrous as well. Can't watch hulu on my Pentium 4 anymore. skips and starts for no reason, yet the commercials work FINE. Grrrr

Anon at 1:51: you say the commercials are fine on Hulu and the shows aren't?

That's exactly the opposite of what I am experiencing. Watching Stargate and the show streams great at 480p full screen but the commercials stutter and stop. Keeps me from watching the show as there is no way to FF the commercials.

Think I found the explanation.
