Book Notes: Bernard Lewis

What went wrong?
Let's start with what's his name.

P rof. LEWIS: How shall I put it? Let me s--let me put it this way.  Here you have in the Middle East a very ancient and a very great civilization, which for 1,000 years or so was in the very forefront of human endeavor. It was the richest, strongest, most powerful, most wealthy of--of all living societies.  It was also on the cutting edge of science, technology, in virtually every field. And then suddenly, within a very short period, this society is  eclipsed by--is--is overshadowed, outperformed in almost every respect by what they had hitherto regarded as the ignorant, barbarous infidels  beyond the northwestern frontier, namely, Christian Europe.

Suddenly, instead of winning every war, they lost every war.

Hm, yea, it's all our fault. Nothing to do with following an anti-progress, anti-liberty, pedophile prophet now was it???

Read the entire article so I disagree with the simplification of the first comment. Not being an historian, here, but Prof. Lewis explained centuries that lead to today's Middle East in an understandable form (assuming he is correct). Aside from drilling our own oil while developing alternate -legitimate- energy sources, we must "stay to win" in the Middle East.

In the end, either of these strategies will be doomed to failure because Liberals will not put forth an honest effort toward either. Most readers familiar with this blog understand what that means and why Liberal policy is destroying and weakening America to its current perception of "paper tiger" status.
Feel free to disagree, not a brainiac here, folks. ;)

The video (from 2001) was quite interesting. On it Professor Lewis, noting an important difference between the two religions, said that Christendom had gone through a reformation and Islam never has.
I thouroughly agree and if Mohammedanism never passes through a reform, it will never become civilized enough to join the modern world.
Frankly, I don't believe it will ever happen. After all...how many centuries do they need?

"richest, strongest, most powerful, most wealthy of--of all living societies."

Yes like the Romans, based on slavery,
(the Barbary pirates had Europe besieged, a christian slave being worth less than an onion)

When the Christians fought back(remember that expedition to Tripoli), the sand monkeys' construct collapsed.

Their present day invasion of
our land is with the intention
of re-establishing slavery for the greater Caliphate.

Islam is also a largely parasitic culture. It didn't create much itself but relied upon the subjugated nations they conquered for any real advancements. As these nations were assimulated, their decline began.
