Green Fuel Disaster Alert

the green fuel bomb
Without government subsidies, controls and mandates,
there would have been little if any demand for ethanol.

Mexico's Poor Seek Relief From Tortilla Shortage
Tortillas are filling—Mexicans eat up to ten every day—but a dramatic rise in the cost of corn flour has driven up the cost of a dozen tortillas from the equivalent of 30 U.S. cents to 50 cents or more in some stores. ... Many experts also point out that U.S. demand for corn to manufacture ethanol is a large factor in the price hikes, especially in neighboring countries. Significant amounts of Mexican corn are now being diverted northward to take advantage of the high prices.

UPDATE 3-Ethanol boom sharply cuts US corn surplus - The resurgent U.S. ethanol industry will use an additional 250 million bushels of corn through the next 15 months, dramatically reducing the corn surplus, despite record crops, the government said on Thursday. ... In a monthly update of crop output and usage, USDA also forecast China would import 1 million tonnes of corn this year, up from its May estimate of 300,000 tonnes

US corn shortage seen to raise meat prices
With the US harvest halfway through, the US Department of Agriculture said the average corn field will yield 155.8 bushels per acre, 6.7 bushels less than its September estimate. ... “The impact of this is huge, a complete game changer,” says Gregg Doud, chief economist of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. “This is an all-time record change in corn yield from one month to the next. We were caught completely flat-footed.”

Administration caves to Big Corn -
The Obama administration wants to boost the amount of corn shoved into the gas tank of newer cars by 50 percent. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) made this happen on Wednesday by giving partial approval to E15, an automotive fuel blend containing 15 percent ethanol. ... Without government subsidies, controls and mandates, there would have been little if any demand for ethanol.

Hoyer pushes, threatens opponent

Maryland Asshat #1
Hoyer: I'm going after you!

You know the Democrats are in trouble when Steny Hoyer hits the airwaves in his campaign to retain his seat in Congress. Hoyer, whose seat was generously drawn for him by Maryland Senate President Mike Miller, usually uses his campaign largesse to benefit his Democratic Party colleagues with little thought of himself.

That changed due to an aggressive campaign by first-time candidate Charles Lollar, who is making inroads into previous Hoyer strongholds in Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties.
[The Hill]

Steny Hoyer - Asshat

I use that HILL article as a preface to this as yet upreported story.    MoSup, listening to Tom Marr's radio show on WCBM while driving home from work tells me ...

In a town hall style debate last night, Hoyer said -

Everyone's been blaming the Clinton administration for causing this financial mess, but let me tell you.  It was Bill Clinton who got the economy going again after inheriting a mess from his predecessor.

Excuse me says his Republican opponent(Lollar), " but as I recall the constitution, it is not the president's responsibility, but congress's in these matters.  Things did not improve until the Republicans took congress 1n 1994, and went back in the tank after democrats took over in 2004."

*hooting and clapping*

Hoyer was very visibly pissed, and actually said to Lollar, "I am going after you!"

As they were exiting, Hoyer was seen sharply pushing Lollar in the back, and heard repeating,in a threatening voice, "I am going after you!"

Asshat O'Malley

Maryland Asshat #2
Maryland Gov. O'Malley (D) called
illegal immigrants "new Americans."

Even before that debate nincompoopery, the WaPost, after endorsing Republican *gasp* Gov. Bob Ehrlich over Baltimore's incompetent, scandal plagued Mayor Martin O'Malley in 2006, is now so overwhelmed by now Gov.O'Malley's brilliant stewardship, that they have endorsed him over Ehrlich for reelection.  The paper's rationale? " ... credits the Democrat for taking "tough, decisive steps" by raising and revising taxes in 2007..."  This state needs a mastectomy.

GOP's Ship of Fools

Who will be the Republicans’
Rahm Emanuel in 2010?

Sarah Walking

I thought this Daily Caller skit was a parody, a joke ... a put-on. Who will be credited for this election's success...?

The top names mentioned by the more than two dozen political insiders – most of them Republicans – were Karl Rove, Haley Barbour and Ed Gillespie, overshadowing the heads of the campaign committees, Texas Rep. Pete Sessions and Texas Sen. John Cornyn. Sessions and Cornyn ... .

Fortunately, the piece goes on to blow-off all Republican nabobs as having little, if any positive impact - save possibly for Jim DeMint.  In truth, the uprising was/is the result of  a body politic combustion waiting to happen, and ignited by  Rick Santelli's rant on CNBC.  The only two mentioned  with real street cred are (+)Sarah Palin and (-)Barack Obama.  I think that Sarah Palin's treatment by the GOP, and her subsequent iconoclasticism may have influenced Santelli.  So, to the extent that any one person deserves singling out, it is she.  Long live the revolution.
