Father's Day Schmozer's Day

Let's quit pretending, okay? It's not that big a deal and "the day" only reminds us that you don't think it's that big a deal either. Check out the Google numbers to confirm: "Mothers Day," 163 Million; "Fathers Day, 38 Million." Case closed. - Gerard

Well, actually that's not bad, considering that it's 9-mo vs 10-min.

I was referring to the inconvenient part.
You know, the time it takes to chew your arm off in order to leave without waking 'er.

What was the product / company you used that gave you an idea as to your ancestry via genetic testing? My dad has been curious as to his. He is 81, so I want him to find out more before he passes to the great beyond (which hopefully won't happen anytime soon).

I got a call from one of my sons last year.

Now, this follows the annual call to both sons to remind them to call their mother and grandmother, in advance of Mother's Day.

I don't think the complimentary action ever takes place. Just saying.

There's no way to post this without being a real downer, but this story seems particularly poignant this weekend.

Short version: a man accused of domestic violence, and subsequently found not guilty by the court, was still ordered to undergo a series of mental health evaluations before being allowed unsupervised visitation with his kids. He fought the order for ten years and a couple of days ago, out of frustration with the family court system and the incessant barriers to his actually being allowed to be a father, immolated himself on the steps of the Keene, NH courthouse.

Comment at the American Digest link above:

"My boss has an old newspaper cartoon on the wall of his office. I've looked, but I can't find a link online. The left panel shows a man, and the caption reads: "He got a woman pregnant but decided he didn't want to be a father. He's a deadbeat dad. The right panel shows a woman, and the caption reads: "She got pregnant but decided she didn't want to be a mother. She's pro-choice."

Here it is:

Scott - I've been thru that system with my BiL: I don't doubt it at all.

Every day is mothers day. At best fathers are tolerated.

Biggest difference is moms say yes to dumb crap and dads tend to say no that's a bad idea to dumb crap. Mom is a human ATM machine and dad says get off your lazy ass and get a job.

Bitter much? Who, me?

Anonymous 10:52 - Yeah, it's a rough road to walk. I'm recently divorced and extremely lucky that I ended up with primary physical custody of a special needs two year old. If my ex-wife hadn't essentially abandoned the family who knows how it would have turned out. As it is, between us we spent probably $100K in legal fees, with the manifest pre-requisite accusations of domestic violence, motions for the court to demand a psych eval, etc. ad nauseum.

To all the dads reading who've trudged through the system and come out for better or worse, big (manly) hugs to you.
