David Brooks "No Brain"

Go spank your monkey Brooks

-
The party is not being asked to raise marginal tax rates in a way that might pervert incentives. On the contrary, Republicans are merely being asked to close loopholes and eliminate tax expenditures that are themselves distortionary.

This, as I say, is the mother of all no-brainers.

But we can have no confidence that the Republicans will seize this opportunity. That’s because the Republican Party may no longer be a normal party. Over the past few years, it has been infected by a faction that is more of a psychological protest than a practical, governing alternative.  [David Brooks, New York Times token "Uncle Barry"
Republican American]

Gee, I wonder who he's talking about?

The members of this movement do not accept the logic of compromise, no matter how sweet the terms. If you ask them to raise taxes by an inch in order to cut government by a foot, they will say no. If you ask them to raise taxes by an inch to cut government by a yard, they will still say no.

The members of this movement do not accept the legitimacy of scholars and intellectual authorities. A thousand impartial experts may tell them that a default on the debt would have calamitous effects, far worse than raising tax revenues a bit. But the members of this movement refuse to believe it.

The members of this movement have no sense of moral decency. A nation makes a sacred pledge to pay the money back when it borrows money. But the members of this movement talk blandly of default and are willing to stain their nation’s honor.

Pour yourself a cup of tea Brooks, it might cure that incessant diarrhea.

So, let me see, we were $10T in debt, spent another $4T, increased spending by 24% on non-mandated stuff, are in debt up to our eyeballs, and have essentially saddled out progeny to years of debt...

When you are in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.

The folks in NYC and DC are not noted for using logic and science in their decision making. Brooks is no exception.
There is no excuse for needing to raise the debt ceiling. It should not be raised.

Even the more sane 'conservative' Repubs talk about "cutting spending $2 trillion over ten years". WTF, over? Try $10 to 16 trillion over ten years and we'll be in the ball park. Inflation alone will eat up the $2 trillion without ever touching the deficit.
Asshats.
How dare any Lib talk about national honor. People who lie, cheat and steal like that group of slimeballs have no honor.

Certain people claim that the "Full-Faith and Credit Clause" of the U.S. Constitution requires the U.S. government to pay its debts. Those people are idiots.

Article IV, Section 1 has nothing to do with the government's FICO score.

It means that the courts of states are required to give full-faith and credit to the "public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state."

You would think that a University of Chicago constitutional law professor would know that.

"...do not accept the legitimacy of scholars and intellectual authorities"

hm.. Ya got a point there, Pal. We don't accept the legitimacy of inherited authority either. Yanno -- that thing you're trying to reinvent with your scholars and intellectual authorities? Kinda the point, here, iddn't it?

And rly - can ya blame US? You've prevaricated, bamfoozled, obfuscated and flat out lied often enough in your "intellectual authority-ness" we're hardly going to be fooled again. Not to mention the scores of times you were so dang certain; and ended up being flat worng, incorrect and waaaay off base.

Maybe ya can peddle that tripe in the EU. I hear Greece is looking for some "intellectual authority"...

Oh, and "moral decency" doesn't include indenturing your own children.

Now simmer down and have a nice think on it all.
