Titanic Analogies

Culture

Unchivalry

Titanic v Concordia
I at first saw a certain cultural analogy.  Upon reflection (as I was posting this) however, the Concordia's captain is reviled (and been quite arrested). I can't vouch for the rest, although I am prepared to think the worst of any Russian with money, since they're almost certainly mobbed up.  So never mind.   This better makes a germane cultural  point. .  No, Wait!  This is even better.

On his maiden trip on the way to New York, the SS Great Eastern hit an uncharted shoal,
ripped a gash four times as big as the Titanic or the Concordia...they didn't need to evacuate
because it just proceeded to New York with nobody noticing except the crew.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a piece of work himself, built them better than they do today!

But things can and do get worse, as when the MTS Oceanos sank off South Africa,
the captain and all the crew abandoned ship and all the passengers on board...
except the ship's guitarist, who led the evacuation and saved everybody(he was the last to be hoisted off)

Sooo...if you HAVE to take a cruise, make sure there is a guitarist on board!

As with all things universally applicable,
Monty Python already covered it.

Nice picture match in the second rollover.

One is is a disaster engineered by incompetent and dishonest fools and the other is the Titanic

And a violinist in the ship's orchestra aboard the Concordia helped passengers evacuate. Then he died trying to retrieve his violin. Maybe musicians should be ship captains.

Capt Francesco Schettino of the Costa Concordia is Italy's Edward "Ted" Kennedy.
