Solution? Strike the Sixth

ACLU Sues Bloomfield for Display of 10 Commandments

Res Ipsa Loquitur

Yesterday, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Mexico filed a lawsuit on behalf of two Bloomfield, NM citizens who seek the removal of the Ten Commandments monument prominently displayed on the city hall lawn. The lawsuit alleges that the monument is a government endorsement of religion and violates the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as well as the New Mexico State Constitution.

In a unique compromise that may find favor with  other municipalities plagued by contentious and disagreeable citizens, the town chiseled out the sixth commandment and killed the two complainants.  The ACLU had no choice but to drop the suit until another citizen petitions them. That appears unlikely.

I promised catharsis.

I'm informed that the correct and literal translation of The Sixth is, "Thou shall do no murder." Shooting ratbastardcommies is an act of personal and national self defense. It's either them or us. I would favor a constitutional amendment to that effect. Problem solved.

Jackasses. Tyrannical jackasses.
Doesn't look like taxpayers had to pay for it, so what's the problem?
The fact that people can actually see it on public property? *gasp*
Local-gov't "endorsement" is not Federal "establishment."

Now, if they wanted to argue the constitutionality of the first four commandments or the fact that US law is based on English Common Law (evolved before Christianity on Great Britain) and post-Enlightenment Judeo-Christian ethics (not Biblical laws) ...

Buuut that's not how tyrants work.
They don't argue, they compel.

I am getting so sick and tired of a tiny minority telling me what WE can do and can't do. The next one who pulls this shit - kick the living shit out of them and repeat until it takes. Just doin my part.

So libtards think it's OK for government to dictate how we all live, but 10 simple orders from God on how to REALLY live in peace and harmony with our fellow man is against the liberal ideal?
Color me surprised...

So you all have no problem then if a Moslem majority in Dearborne MN plasters the Koran all over a local courthouse?

After all, according to this logic, a Moslem local majority can therefor impose Sharia locally without violating the federal establishment clause.

The 14th amendment ended local government's ability to ignore the constitution, Doug.

Or how about adding passages from the Book of Mormon to local Utah courthouses?

Currently, the LDS put's its teenager seminaries off of school property. Relax the establishment clause, and they absolutely will put them in the schools.

Ya might want to tread lightly here. Once you let the secular cat out of the bag, you may end up not being the majority religion.

Majority religion, Kristopher?

I thought Moses was Jewish. Ditto Jesus Christ...

The Ten Commandments may have been scribed on stone tablets at the top of a mountain, but the content is a useful guide to interpersonal behavior nonetheless.
Just WHICH religion do the Ten Commandments profess to put ahead of all others? On the other hand, citings from the Koran seem to relate to the Muslims, specifically. The problem of Islam in the US is that it, as written, has passages that are inimical to the form of government we currently have(?), and are desirous of destroying it. I know of no other religion that has such destruction in its core beliefs.

This is about tradition and culture. No society ever! has been founded and flourished as atheists. None. May have worshiped cats, or dirt, or the moon, but there was always God. And I'll put it to you that it really doesn't matter what the religion is, as long as it's commonly accepted, because nothing will fracture a nation quicker than dueling "gods."

The Christian religion was a bedrock of our Founding, like it or not, and non-believers simply ignored it if they wanted. But all benefited from the moral codes that were passed on. This notion today that every individual's space is sacrosanct (the tyranny of the minority), is destroying us. Culture and tradition matter.

I know that you're pretty damn smart, and if you take the long view, and not take everything as a challenge to duel, you can appreciate what, and who, are killing us.

OK ... I had a few long screeds up, but deleted them. Lets try a single question:

Which religious organization should be able to decide what is appropriate for courthouse decoration? And how will we decide which organization gets to make the decision? By vote? or by history?

If it is by vote, The Book of Mormon will be all over courthouses in Utah. If it is by longest history in the US, then that decision making body will consist only of Calvinists ( the surviving main branch that the Puritans were offshoots of ).

That's all I ask. I want to know exactly which religious organization will make these decisions, and why.

I thought I just covered that; tried to anyway.

You tried, Rodge, but it doesn't cut it for me.

At some point, when you put a religious tract on a government building, someone has to decide what is cultural, and what is a state religion endorsement.

I'll just disagree, and drop this.
