We weren't expecting to get our power back (lost it Fri night) until next weekend. Inside house temp 85, outside heading to 100 again. Air cond. id on. Refrigerator is on. Freezer is on. I'm drained.

The sky turned so ugly (picked up lots of dust from road construction) so fast, I had an actual foreboding I've never felt from weather before. The company above is working on an asynchronous version (it can run when the power from the grid is dead).

Power outages may become more common due to a couple factors:

*Nuke plants are getting old and shutting down.

*Coal plants are forcibly being shutdown.

*The 'renewable' bullshit investments (wind & solar) are seriously destabilizing the electrical grid. More here on that: http://web.mit.edu/mitei/research/reports/intermittent-renewables.html

Anonymous said...: Yamaha and Honda make sweet little generators, about 2000 W peak, light enough for one person to carry, very quiet. Verry quiet compared to those things on frames.

Had a four day power out in NJ and kept that thing running through it all. One extension cord through a basement window to keep a freezer and 2nd refrig going, one through a window for an electric light and internet and computer and recharge phone. Worked like a chanp.

I have a battry carbon monoxcide sensor in the basement and I keep the generator well away from windows.

You don;t know how much a few bright electric lights (as opposed to candels or flashlights) improve your disposition.

And being able to web surf or watch Netscape for hours on end with nothing else requiring attention was almost fun.; 7/1/12, 8:59 PM

Try asking your cell phone provider how long their service will be up when the grid crashes.
