Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a 2011 Japanese documentary film that follows Jiro Ono, an 85 year-old sushi master and owner of Michelin 3-Star restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro, on his continuing quest to perfect the art of sushi. His restaurant (Sushi Bar) seats just 10, and 20 pieces of sushi will cost you $300—for starters.  Reservations must be made months in advance,

I started watching this Monday night around midnight, just to see what it looked like.  An hour and a half later I gave it 5 stars.  Just like Note By Note - The Making Of The Steinway, Jiro is one of the most  fascinating documentaries I've ever seen.

Oddly, I think it was recommended by NetFlix because I had been watching "Letters form Iwo Jima."  I had no previous knowledge of this film, so what would you be looking to see?  Marines writing letters home during the WWII battle for Iwo Jima,  right?  Right.  Except the letters were from the Japanese.    A bold idea for an American made film, and it began interestingly enough.  But somewhere it became less an interesting portal into the Japanese mind, and more a paean to the noble Japanese who were being butchered in their little caves by Marines with flamethrowers. At that time Japanese soldiers were tossing bayoneted Chinese babies around in Nanking.  It was all bit much for me.  I didn't finish it.

And another twist.  Modern day Communist China is making noise about going to war with Japan.  I'd gladly stand  alongside the Japanese in that fight, same as I would with the Israelis against Islam.

My Buyers Remorse is a new web site that features ex-Obama voters making acts of contrition.  The videos I looked at are produced by the American Jewish Coalition.  For the most part they've turned on Obama over his stance on Israel. which is somewhat disappointing. Even the text messages from non-Jews seem to have Israel as their principal motivation.

My wife and I support Romney even though we are Hispanic and Catholic. I am going on a vacation to Ohio and will devote 4 hours each day there to campaign for Romney. We are former Democrats and I am from Chicago, but still can see through Obama,,,he  is a bad apple. Let’s ask all Americans, Catholics, Christians, etc. to stand with Jews and Israel. Let’s not make the mistakes of the 1933-1938 era…

I would like to have seen them turn on Obama for being part of a corrupt left-wing Democrat Party, but what the hell; our goal is to be rid of Obama, and losing the Jewish vote (now lowest support in 32 years), and especially Jewish money, is a key. Plus, everywhere I look I'm seeing stuff like:

Colorado: Romney 47%, Obama 45%, New Hampshire: Romney 48, Obama 45Daily Presidential Tracking Poll [48 Days Away, BO at-12] ,Obama’s Foreign Policy Approval Rating Drops After Mideast Turmoil,  Romney Ahead in 11 Key Swing States

If Romney is elected—without firm control of both Senate and House— the best that can be accomplished  is a holding action, and that is not good enough to save us.  News like this will keep Dems from going to the polls, and that's key.  USA UAS USA.

Disclosure- this post was mainly for me, a necessary indulgence.

How the hell is this even questionable??

SPOT-ON ROMNEY

Res Ipsa Loquitor

Mitt Romney was  absolutely right when he said supporters of President Barack Obama are dependent on the government. The nation is approaching a dangerous tipping point  when “takers” outnumber “makers” — and it’s “lights out for America” if Obama is re-elected. —  Ann Coulter

But then we are saddled by the likes of GOP asshat wannabe Linda McMahon (Why God? Why?)

NAUGATUCK, Conn. – Connecticut Senate candidate Linda McMahon distanced herself from her party’s presidential nominee Tuesday, saying she completely disagrees with Mitt Romney’s leaked statement that 47 percent of Americans are “dependent on government” and see themselves as “victims” who are “entitled to food, to housing, to you name it.”

“Well I couldn’t disagree with Governor Romney more on that,”  said McMahon

She's sooooooo dirty

Today's GOP girl. Evidently.

Civil Disturbances

While being  the smartest guy about everything is in my job description (as TRKOF &S), I'm afraid that here, the gig is up. This caught my eye earlier in the week, and I admit to being somewhat disoriented by it all.

DOD FM 19-15  manual (CIVIL DISTURBANCES) looked to me like something Janet Napolitano and Barack Obama have printed for distribution later, like after the election. I had to double check the issue date. Yep. 1975.  Because it clearly outlines how the Executive branch can mobilize our Army and Air Force (but not the Navy and Marines) to quell "civil disturbances."

What gob smacked me was that my casual knowledge of the Posse Comitatus Act led me to believe that the President's power to use our military domestically, extended to mobilizing a state's National Guard, as Eisenhower did in the Little Rock school desegregation.  My quick review of both documents (sample below in a Rollover) indicates that a tyrant President (Pray God we never have one) can use our military against us.  All he has to do is provoke the population into something he calls a civil disturbance".

This room is full of people more knowledgeable than I on this subject, and I hope for your comments.  Here' Wikipedia on Posse  Comitatus, and here's the Civil Disturbance manual in .pdf form. And here's something in case you just don't care.
