It has been years since I messed around with Linux esp. Mint but I seem to remember that it has a partition command that in execution reformts and disappears everything, but when it does that it creates a "hidden" partition and compresses everything into it. You have to get into your computers "root" directory if I remember correctly to find the dang thing. I don't have my hard copy books on linux/mint anymore but you might wan't to research that.

Dang you are boogered then.
The only thing I can remember was having to restart and clicking F-8 until a command screen came up ...I think you had to yell NEE! and kiss both elbows but I'm not sure.

Sometimes the old things work better than the new.

Maybe this is the place all those lost IRS emails went.

I may be out of line here but it appears to me you've spent so muc time and effort on this nonsense that you'd have been better off buying a cheap, used Windows 7 machine dedicated ONLY to blogging while leaving a regular desktop unit for personal use.

Either that or just buy a new Win8.1 machine (about $350 or so) and save yourself a lot of grief.

Better yet, buy a new hard drive, ditch the old one, load Win 7 brand new into it and start fresh.

Ah, how much better is Linux than Windows 8.1 again?

I am very happy with my Windows 8.1.

Say what you want about Bill Gates and M$. If it wasn't for him I'd probably be shoveling shit in Louisiana.

Damn, Rodge, based on what you said a week or so ago I downloaded LinuxMint 17 (MATE) and did a dual installation on an old Vista machine. So far I love it! I can't believe how much faster it runs. It came pre-loaded with Libre Office (reads ALL my MSOffice files), Banshee (even supports my iPod Nano), and I found Linux versions of other software I use alot. Installation couldn't have been easier and it set up the partitions all by itself.

Windows 8 sux dead donkey dongles.

Sorry, dear friend. Your vow "til death do us part" didn't mean the OS. You're stuck with us.

Windows 8 sucks. Windows 8.1 fixes a lot of that.

SUSE's a great and easy Linux version, which can be dual-booted on a Windows system.

I have Mint 17 on DVD, but haven't yet played with it.

Get yourself to a command line (boot from the Mint CD/DVD) and run 'fsck' (FileSystemChecK). If it was a Windows drive, you might be able to repair it using the Repair(? - it's been a while) mode on the Win install disk.
