Radio Shack kaput? Posted by Rodger the Real King of France | 2/03/2015 03:03:00 PM | PERMALINK Back Link (10) | Send This Post | HOME

Writing in Righteous Indignation, Breitbart noted that, “the left doesn’t win its battles in debate. It doesn’t have to. In the 21st century, media is everything. The left wins because it controls the narrative. The narrative is controlled by the media. The left is the media and narrative is everything.”
Back in the 70s, it was the place to go for electronic components - resistors, vcapacitors and the like. I had a nifty electronics project kit I got from then. LSI circuits did them in, along with their attempt to be phone store.

Sad. Where do you go when you need a resistor??
Back when it was Allied Radio Shack, it was staffed by
serious electronics hobbyists or retired professionals.
When Tandy bought them out, they made every mistake
imaginable over the course of course of the last 40 or
so years. They have only themselves to blame for their
50 years ago, my dad taught me radio electronics with kits from Radio Shack.
The local store also had interesting surplus stuff from the local military.
Who will repair my Tandy 1000S with dual 5.25 floppy drives?
This is only ONE of the casualties. Sears is on it's last legs as is JC Penney. Staples is merging with Office Depot to forestall the inevitable. The sad thing is, I used to love going there when I was a hobbyist. I used to build Heathkits and also used Lafayette Electronics. Never was a ham but, thought about doing it. This was back when you had to pass a REAL test including pounding and reading Morse code. I didn't think I had the "fist" for it. Oh those were the good ol' days.

They focused on the cell phone space when they should've focused on drones and robot kits. Sad, a bunch of blind execs running and ruining a great hobby store.
oy vey ole'

I used to buy my crystals for my police scanners there in the 60's. I bought a charger for my laptop there last week.
Tandy should have stuck with leather.

I think for a lot of people, RadioShack was the place to go when you couldn't find it anywhere else. Which also made it the last place you'd go instead of the first. My last visit, maybe 5 years back, was helping my youngest with a science fair project. I mistakenly walked up to the clerk and read off my list of electronic needs while he just stared blankly back. He might have been 17 years old. He vaguely pointed toward the back of the store and then I was on my own. It's just not the same store anymore. Amazon is now my go-to. I'll wait a couple days for it.

Tandy ruined Radio Shack. They never kept up with the times. They put stores on every other street corner, shopping centers and malls. They became the Chinese take out and Pizza business in most towns.

Sears is really heartbreaking, they are a American institution. What young couple starting a family didn't start by purchasing appliances for their homes or tires and batteries for their car.

What if they unplug it and plug it back in again?
