BLUE BLOODS

Blue Bloods
... a 2010 era cop drama with 1950 values. Five stars.

The series BLUE BLOODS follows the Irish-American Reagan family of police officers with the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Francis "Frank" Reagan (Selleck) is the Police Commissioner. He was a U.S. Marine Corps officer and a Vietnam veteran before he joined the NYPD. He is a 9/11 First Responder, a widower whose son Joe was murdered in the line of duty, and has three other adult children—Danny, Erin, and Jamie. All the women are hot.

Looking for the next dinner hour series we found Blue Bloods.  It's a CBS series which explains why I'd never heard of it. I no longer watch anything raw on the "Peoples Networks."  The 5th (and evidently last) season just ended, so there are lots of episodes.

After the first few episodes MoSup was hooked.  Me?  I thought it a little too, I don't know, bland?  However, as usually happens with a new series the writers expand personalities and tweak the characters. I've always liked Tom Selleck and Donnie ( Mark too) Wahlberg so there's that.  Anyway, here's what I'll say.  After episode 4 or 5 I noticed that I could not remember an instance where Blue language was used. None.  Which meant I hadn't missed it at all. I also noticed that I  felt good after we watched our nightly two episodes. I felt at home with them.

Very good series. One I like a lot is Person of Interest.

Kinda White Collar but less shiny and more ...interesting.

I like just about all shows about the NYPD (from Naked City through Barney Miller, Kojak and NYPD Blue to Blue Bloods). But some are more authentic than others; NYPD Blue was one of the most authentic, especially in terms of procedure and jargon; Blue Bloods, not so much.

One of my peeves is referring to a marked police car, patrol car or cruiser as a "squad car". Squad cars are driven by the various detective squads and are unmarked.

But I'd watch Blue Bloods just for Bridget Moynahan, a tall, dark, slim, gorgeous, smart and classy lawyer just like my friend Mrs. Brown.

My husband and I watch it every Friday night - I love the family dinner scenes, with the Irish Catholic blessing, the ribbing on each other, and the pater familias in charge - just like I remember dinner with my in-laws.

Don't forget the nurse married to Danny - she's a little cutie.

Actually, Rodger, Blue Bloods is in season 6; Amazon has only the first 5 so far.

I'm a little surprised you hadn't discovered it already. I'll attribute that to its being in the "Friday night death slot" (10 PM) where networks send series to die (eg. Firefly), and that it's about the only thing on CBS that's not a brain dead sitcom or completely contrived drama.

We watch "Blue bloods" every Friday night, and again on Thursday nights on Ion TV. While it is fairly mild compared to some of the other cop shows, like "Criminal Minds" for instance, but it is one hell of a lot better than the idiotic sitcoms that ABC puts on every evening.

We just finished season one last night, and it was great. Like I said, I always feel good afterward; just do.
