Trump Populism

Right-wing populism (aka Tea party populism) ) is a political ideology that rejects existing political consensus and often combines laissez-faire liberalism and anti-elitism. It is considered populism because of its appeal to the "common man" as opposed to the elites.[1] In Europe right-wing populism is also an expression used to describe groups and political parties generally known for their opposition to immigration, mostly from the Islamic world, and the European Union. Traditional right-wing views such as opposition to an increasing support for the welfare state and a "more lavish, but also more restrictive, domestic social spending" scheme is also described under right-wing populism and is sometimes called "welfare chauvinism".[2][3][4] WIKI
So, what the hell is wrong with that?

That definitions of populism, the Tea Party, and conservatism are completely wrong. The Tea Party has nothing to do with populism. It has to do with the US Constitution. Rule of law under the Constitution is the basis. That's also what conservatism is. The definitions in this paragraph are completely unfounded.

Conservatives (and the Tea Party) want the power and reach of the federal government to remain within Constitutional limits. That also applies to federal spending, which must be spent in line with Constitutional limits.

Looks like we have reached a philosophical limitation of Wikipedia.

Well said, Skoonj!

Wikipedia can be useful, but it's hardly authoritative. And often it's just plumb wrong.

According to Infogalactic.com (highly recommended!) the definition of Right Wing Populism is: "Right-wing populism is a political ideology that rejects existing political consensus and often combines laissez-faire liberalism and anti-elitism. It is considered populism because of its appeal to the "common man" as opposed to the elites." There is a lot more in that entry; have a look!

I won't be using the far-left liberally biased Wikipedia any more. Infogalactic is far better and unbiased; try it out & see what you think! (Note: site is slow at times, that problem is being addressed.)

Being cable/satellite free, I watch a lot of 60's and 70's TV shows that are broadcast over the air. I use Wikipedia to see if some of the actors are still alive. It's pretty reliable for that.

I'm working of memory here but multiple decades ago there was a university "student" protest in Mexico City. The powers that be sent in the army and they hosed the protesters down with .50 machine guns. Wikipedia's take on that was oh how horrible and facist that was.
They don't talk about how the students had taken advantage of the Mexican government. The University paid a stipend, and you as long as you were enrolled and "making progress" toward a degree you would get it. Some of the students had been in the system long enough that their kids were old enough to enroll. Of course it wasn't enough for them, they wanted more, so they threw a pro-communist anti-government riot. It was one riot too far.

Welp, they got the Taxed Enough Already (TEA) party thing wrong. It's about limiting the shadow government of lifers in unsupervised federal agencies, limited government in general, government by consent of the governed, and accountability.

Whoa! Or is it woe? Anyway, after I posted this the wife came in an (wedding) anniversary gift. That's right. And she said "you forgot didn't you?" And I said no ... and said where's my coffee then? And I quick found a 32 pack of Bic pans that I'd only taken one from and wrapped it in printer paper and when she brought my coffee I said Here! Happy Anniversary and she said you forgot didn't you and I said yes but let me buy you breakfast and I did whatever she wanted and that did not include computer stuff. We watched 3 movies.

Anyway. I added the "Tea Party" words to the wiki quote and here's my demurrer for not knowing what the tea party is. I watched Rick Santelli's rant about Obama's plane to bail out foreclosed homes (""Do we really want to subsidize the losers' mortgages?" he asked. "This is America! How many of you people want to pay for your neighbor's mortgage that has an extra bathroom and can't pay their bills?

Bang! That immediately caused a populist revolt over govt spending which saw hundreds of angry taxpayers to attend Dem reelection events and scare the crap out of them.

From that point on, the Tea Party embraced a revolt against Liberal spending, liberal lies, and liberal misfeasance, malfeasance and their phony president. All this, what? That's right- "appealed to the common man" who wasn't a ratbastard nanny stater. So don't be so picky. Sheesh.

Okay, I'm buying beers.
