CHEATERS

People are always asking. "Say, Rodge ..
.

North Carolina has been under investigation by the NCAA since 2014 regarding an academic scandal alleged to span over three decades. The “death penalty” he refers to is the harshest sanction the NCAA can enforce against a program. It bans a school’s program from competition for at least a season and was last used against SMU football in 1987. The Mustangs had a long rebuild after that, and it’s unlikely the NCAA would bring the house down in UNC’s case.

Update: During an interview with Sirius XM Wednesday, UNC basketball coach Roy Williams chimed in:

“[W]e have a president that says we should get the death penalty, a president of another university, and to me that’s just so silly,” Williams said, clearly referencing Loh. “A guy told me one time that if you got a little knowledge, it turns you into an idiot, but no knowledge, you’re a double idiot. That’s about the way I look at that thing."

Calling someone a “double idiot” is pretty childish, so hopefully this is the end of this.

The charges against UNC go back to 2010.  There is no way that one who's followed this case since then wouldn't also think "Death Penalty."  In 1990, for instance, the Univ. MD was handed a near "death penalty" because ex-coach Bob Wade had provided a leased car, making cash payments of $272 and giving rides to former Terrapin guard Rudy Archer (so he could go to remedial class at PG. County Jr College), and giving free or greatly discounted clothing to Alonzo Mourning and Brian Williams while they were being recruited. By contrast then, UNC deserves the firing squad.

All I need to know about UNC is Roy Boy had a Presbyterian fan ejected for yelling, "Deion, don't miss" during a free throw. Can you imagine the stuff UNC fans say to Coach K?

They should get the death penalty. Not just for cheating but because their fans are almost as bad as OSU and Alabama when it comes to being cocky assholes... :)

When SMU got the death penalty in 1987, there was a memorial service held at Razorback Stadium (since renamed) in Fayte-berg. That was, of course, back before they broke up the old Southwest Conference, when tradition still meant something.
