Katie Kane offered Barn Army commission

BUT, WAIT!

Her name’s Katie, she’s a USAF F-16 crew chief. She’s a hardcore Boston Red Sox fan and is obsessed with her dog, Pongo. She gets hit on and asked on dates so often that she just tells people she’s in a relationship. Her smile is even better in person.

Katie has been tendered an immediate commission  as batman to the Barn Army Commander, with a breveted rank of Admiral Commander. We await anxiously.

So Keats and Byron die ...

Heavenly Rhyme-Off

Poets Keats and Lord Byron died and Saint Peter said that, sadly, he had but one room for  poets in heaven.  To determine which one, Saint Peter asked them to write a poem in sixty-seconds using the word Timbuktu.

Keats wrote:

As I was walking on the shore
listening to the ocean roar
A sailing ship came into view
DestinationTimbuktu.

Lord Byron wrote

As Tim and I astrolling went,
We spied three maidens in a tent.
Since they were three and we were two,
I bukt one and Tim bukt two.

Book details (from Wikipedia):

The book is based on Broughton's tour of duty between September 1966 and June 1967 as Vice Commander of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing, based at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand. The narrative is anecdotal in nature, a commentary of his observations of persons, aircraft, and events during his tour,

Normally, I wouldn’t be open to reading anything from the Vietnam Era. The Vietnam Conflict was a shameful period in U.S. history and not a policy that I supported. Yet, in spite of my misgivings about policy, I realized some years ago when I met Navy pilot and bestselling author Stephen Coonts that there were many courageous men who fought over there because they believed they were making the world a safer place. Thud Ridge is the autobiography of another pilot from another service. Jack Brough...more
more or less chronologically, but without dated references. Few individuals are identified by other than first or nicknames, but Broughton develops most as characters through descriptions of their career backgrounds. Broughton's accounts of missions "up north" were enhanced in both accuracy and verisimilitude by verbatim transcriptions of radio transmissions he recorded using a small tape recorder mounted in the cockpit of his aircraft.

In Thud Ridge Broughton is highly critical of the U.S. command structure directing air operations against North Vietnam. He blames micromanagement by the highest levels in Washington down to the Thirteenth Air Force, a command echelon based in the Philippines, for losses of men and aircraft that he characterizes as "astronomical" and "worthless". He is particularly critical, however, of the "bomber mentality" management by generals who came up through the Strategic Air Command and then occupied key command slots in the war, which was being fought by pilots of the Tactical Air Command.

The book came about when, at the completion of his tour of duty, Broughton and two of his pilots were court martialed by the USAF for allegedly conspiring to violate the rules of engagement regarding U.S. air operations. Although acquitted of the most serious charges, Broughton, who had been personally relieved of duty by Pacific Air Forcescommander Gen. John D. Ryan, was subsequently transferred to an obscure post in the Pentagon, allegedly as a vendetta because his punishment was so slight. Required by office protocol to work only two or three days a month, he used both his extra time and his bitterness at the Air Force to compose Thud Ridge while he awaited approval of an application to appeal of his conviction to the Air Force Board for Correction of Military Records.

After his conviction was overturned and expunged from his record because of "undue command influence", Broughton retired from the Air Force in August 1968 and had the memoir published by J.B. Lippincott. The book appeared soon after as a Bantam paperback, with reprint editions in 1985, 2002, and 2006.

Detroit City KAPOW

DETROIT POLICE STAND WITH CITIZENS WHO ARE USING GUNS FOR SELF-DEFENSE
Armageddon Law

With "fatal self-defense shootings on the rise in Detroit," law-abiding citizens know one thing--Detroit police have their back.

According to The Detroit News, "justified" self-defense shootings in Detroit are hovering around 10 since January 1st.

This is up considerably from 2013, in which "there were 15 justifiable [self-defense shootings] in the city" during the entire year.
And far from criticizing the fact that more and more homeowners are standing up for their lives and property, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he views this rebirth of self-defense as proof that"more and more Detroiters are becoming empowered."

Just so, the police will not and cannot protect you during emergencies, so how dare states like Maryland deny citizens the right to self protection?

Luis Gutierrez Threat

The Visible Thug

Rep Luis Gutierrez doesn’t bother to make thinly-veiled threats. They are blatant and right out for all to see.

Gutierrez tries to provide legitimacy to the claim that B. Hussein Obama is an American citizen and then bizarrely asserts that as some type of basis for another irrational argument. He admonishes the House of Representatives, telling them if they don’t give Obama his amnesty for the illegals who have overrun the country, he’ll do it anyway.

The cat is out of the bag, and we just got proof. Get ready for Obama to couple himself with Abraham Lincoln when he illegally decrees amnesty. His minion just characterized him as wanting to be “an emancipator not a deporter.” He’s going to equate the liberation of citizen slaves with the legalization of citizens of Mexico.

Obamunists Okay College Football Labor Unions WTF.

Thug Culture
overtime
The New Meaning For Football overtime

You may have heard that President Obama’s National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) just decided that college football players can unionize.
So what does this mean for the future of college sports?

lll

The NLRB’s decision is a classic example of mission creep. As the percentage of unionized employees in the U.S. has declined over the last several decades to the point where only 6.7 percent of the private sector workforce are members of unions, the Board has found a need to push the envelope in order to maintain its relevance. That’s because with fewer unionized employees the Board’s influence has shrunk. This decision, which if upheld will likely lead to unions gaining more members, is just another among many recent actions that the Board has taken in an effort to increase unionization. For instance, the Board is also in the process of changing the rules for unionization elections to make it much easier for unions to win.
Returning to the college football context, what can we expect if the players are unionized?

First, since the National Labor Relations Act only applies to private sector employers, public universities will not be affected. This means that things like pesky union work rules, grievance adjustment, etc. will work to give public universities an advantage in terms of flexibility that private universities will not have. If this decision stands, look for private universities to begin lobbying their states to change the public sector employee laws so that players at public universities can be unionized as well.

Next, before a union can be formed, the appropriateness of a particular unit of employees for bargaining must be determined. Since football players have different needs and wants from other scholarship athletes like golfers, most sports will probably have their own bargaining unit. At a large university with a dozens of sports this could mean dealing with dozens of bargaining units.

In the midst of a union’s campaign to unionize players, management will have difficulty trying to figure out what is and what is not an unfair labor practice under NLRB precedent. Can the coach promise to improve working conditions if the players vote the union down?  No. Can the coach limit what player can and cannot say on Facebook about their working conditions? Maybe, but it’s safer to not go there. Would your average coach know this without having a lawyer pre-clearing everything that they say?  Unlikely. This is enough to give even the most weathered coach migraines. Also, since what is and is not an unfair labor practice seems to be changing on a daily basis due to the NLRB’s mission creep, one needs not only to know what the NLRB has decided in the past but also to anticipate what they will decide in the future. Labor and employment lawyers and consultants are the only people that will like this because it means new revenue streams for their firms.

Every unit of unionized players will, of course, need a shop steward. The union will also need officers and personnel to negotiate with the university on a collective bargaining agreement. Since employees who work under a collective bargaining agreement are not allowed to individually bargain with the employer over anything that affects the terms or conditions of their employment, all such issues will have to be handled by a union representative.

The union will have to collect dues from the players to support its existence. It will have to file annual financial disclosure reports with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS). The union officers and employees will have to file conflict of interest reports with OLMS as well. If the university makes certain types of payments or loans of money or other things of value to the union, its officers, agents, stewards, or other representatives, it will have to file disclosure reports.
Since oversight of union officer elections falls under the jurisdiction of OLMS pursuant to the Labor-Management reporting and Disclosure Act, not only will the private universities be dealing with the NLRB, but they will likely have investigators from OLMS around from time to time as well.

And, don’t forget union officers and employees embezzling from their members and other related criminal acts. It happens. Investigating these is also the responsibility of OLMS which obtained 121 criminal convictions for such acts in fiscal year 2012.
