Where slander and libel meet the road

The New York Times.  Again.
Boned Jello

The New York Times today printed  "High Jinks to Handcuffs for Landrieu Provocateur"   Obviously penned before the story was shown to be a tempest in a teacup, with corrections asked for and received by much of the duped media, the Times decided to eat the pig they paid for.

The paper's reputation is so ruined that I'm relived of any responsibility to sling mud.  This is for fun.  An example of what could easily pass for a  parody from Onion.
One of those arrested was Stan Dai, 24, a former editor in chief of the irreverent GW Patriot at George Washington University, where he published an anti-feminist article lampooning the play “The Vagina Monologues.” His version was called “The Penis Monologues.”

Another was Mr. Basel, 24, the co-founder of a conservative publication at the University of Minnesota, Morris, that features headlines like “Third World Countries Need Sweatshops” and “I Hate Che Guevara T-Shirts.”
*gasp* Those bastards!

This is a clip from a documentary about the Mexican drug cartels.  I sums up in 90 seconds what we're up against.  Check out Rolling Stone's Investigation  (first posted last September) for a look into how sophisticated they've become, and how utterly pathological they remain.  Looking at how we're dealing with al-Qaeda terrorists in this country will tell you how much chance we have of ending the threat.  Which is why I should be running Homeland Security.

The State of the Union Is Comatose

By FRANK RICH
Published: January 30, 2010

HANDS down, the State of the Union’s big moment was Barack Obama’s direct hit on the delicate sensibilities of the Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. The president was right to blast the 5-to-4 decision giving corporate interests an even greater stranglehold over a government they already regard as a partially owned onshore subsidiary. How satisfying it was to watch him provoke Alito into a “You lie!” snit. Here was a fight we could believe in.
I think I found the prollem. Notice that the The New York Times Newsroom Navigator  does not list among it's resources The New York Times.  That's prolly why Rich missed Supreme Court and the law reporter Linda Greenhouse's  au contraire explanation last week.  Some quotage:

This time, Justice Alito shook his head as if to rebut the president’s characterization of the Citizens United decision, and seemed to mouth the words “not true.” Indeed, Mr. Obama’s description of the holding of the case was imprecise. He said the court had “reversed a century of law.”

The law that Congress enacted in the populist days of the early 20th century prohibited direct corporate contributions to political campaigns. That law was not at issue in the Citizens United case, and is still on the books. Rather, the court struck down a more complicated statute that barred corporations and unions from spending money directly from their treasuries — as opposed to their political action committees — on television advertising to urge a vote for or against a federal candidate in the period immediately before the election.
A  bit more hubris from Rich was him saying  "John McCain epitomizes the unpatriotic opposition."  Tsk-tsk.  There is no shortage of unpatriotic peeps in this nation, but I don't think refusing to roll over for Obama's legislative initiatives qualifies.  When well known Americans travel overseas, and call our President guilty of war crimes, that's unpatriotic.  When a newspaper discloses" the existence of a program to discover planned Al Qaeda terrorist operations on U.S. soil," thats unpatriotic treasonous.  Frank Rich is guilty of being Olbermann-istic, a capital crime in the journalism bidness.

IPCC now in Bizarroland: Pachauri releases “smutty” romance novel
Just when you think things can’t get any more bizarre with the IPCC, having just learned that the IPPC 2007 report used magazine articles for references, head of the IPCC, Dr. Rajenda Pachauri, provides comedy gold. According to the UK Telegraph, he’s just released what they describe as a “smutty” romance novel, Return to Almora laced with steamy sex, lots of sex. Oh, and Shirley MacLaine.

His op-ed is something more.  It addresses, head-on, a touchy topic that the administration prefers either to avoid or to speak about in platitudes: The maintenance of America’s nuclear forces in the face of the president’s nuclear free world agenda.

Pelosi Lied About Waterboarding
During an interview for my book, a former top intelligence official told me he was shocked when Pelosi made this claim, because, he said, in the same time frame that she admits she was briefed on waterboarding, she stopped a different covert operation by going to the White House to complain. The White House actually pulled back the top-secret document authorizing the action that had already been signed by President Bush, and revised it to meet Pelosi’s demands.

Obama Girl

'Obama Girl' kicks Obama to the curb

Mr. Obama's chutzpah is startling even by Washington standards. He must have forgotten about his deal with pharmaceutical companies that broke his promise to allow drug reimportation from Canada. The same goes for a recent deal to save unions $60 billion in taxes that other Americans with the same insurance plans would have to pay. The White House dispatched two aides - Jim Messina and Peter Rouse - to negotiate the notorious Cornhusker kickback deal with Sen. Ben Nelson, Nebraska Democrat, to get him to break his promise not to support any health care legislation that funded abortions. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was directly involved in those negotiations too.

Amber Lee Ettinger, whose racy YouTube video boosted Mr. Obama's campaign popularity, says she's disappointed with his broken promises. Comparing the president to a lying lover, the famous "Obama Girl" warns that when a boyfriend lies, "You kick him to the curb." Losing Teddy Kennedy's Senate seat didn't wake up Democrats to public outrage over their policies. Maybe losing "Obama Girl" will get their attention.[Full]
