Oil produces idiots

''more than 500 years ... ''
''In the long run, an economy that utilizes petroleum as a primary energy source is not sustainable, because the amount of oil in the Earth’s crust is finite. However, sustainability is a misleading concept, a chimera. No technology since the birth of civilization has been sustainable.'' - "Are We Running Out of Oil?"
Oil reserves are analogous to food stocks in a pantry. If a household divides its pantry stores by the daily food consumption rate, the same conclusion is always reached: the family will starve to death in a few weeks. Famine never occurs because the family periodically restocks the pantry.

Similarly, if oil reserves are divided by current production rates, exhaustion appears imminent. However, petroleum reserves are continually increased by ongoing exploration and development of resources. For 80 years, oil reserves in the United States have been equal to a 10- to 14-year supply at current rates of development. If they had not been continually replenished, we would have run out of oil by 1930.

How Much Oil Is Left?
Scaremongers are fond of reminding us that the total amount of oil in the Earth is finite and cannot be replaced during the span of human life. This is true; yet estimates of the world’s total oil endowment have grown faster than humanity can pump petroleum out of the ground.
As an aside, I have never been so disgusted with Senate Republicans as I am now with their whorish behavior re oil company profits.  Frist is no better than Lott was as Majority Leader, and that's the harshest thing I can say about anyone without using the ''C [linton]" word.

On NPR Today....Exxon released first quarter profits today and they are "horrendous".

A barrel of crude usually costs 3 or 4x what it costs to pull it out of the ground....a barrel is now selling for 10x the amount.

Refineries ususally make 10-15 cents per gallon refined...now making 75 cents per gallon.

Those who just sell gas...they are making less than ever....Exxon must refine its own gas then.

There are villains in this, but it is not the oil companies. It is the Democrats who artificially restrict our oil supply. That is the group that Republicans should be attacking.

Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela are drilling off the coast of Florida but we can't. ANWR would give us enough oil so that we not have to buy from Saudi Arabia for 25 years. However, Democrats filibuster any attempt to open these areas for drilling.

we need to build more refinerieseliminate the "special blend" fules, replace all oil burning energy plants with nuke plants, and DRILL for our own OIL!!
Drill and a pump in every yard ( they can start at my place) if that's what it takes to tell the middle east got to hell.
ANWAR is just the beggining,
Alsakan legislators are trying to TAX the oil companies more now.
The oil companies are turning to CAnada for oil-our number one supplier of forign oil is CANADA. WHY, when we have it right here under our feet???
Just an old guy stommping his cane on the porch.
