Today's bad thing #2
  1. Son gets a call this morning - from the Vet- : his dog Oakliegh died while being treated for Encephalitis
  2. Huck wants to bury Oakliegh in the yard, so digs  grave and goes to retrieve dog's body
  3. He calls us to ask if he can just leave Oakliegh in the black bag, without opening it?
  4. I guess ... .  We're surprised though, since Huck had expressed a desire to see Oak, and get some closure.
  5. The reason he doesn't want to open the bag, it turns out,  is because Oakliegh was beheaded
  6. Yup .. when he arrives to get his dog, the vet says Oakliegh bit someone last night, and they had to send the head in for examination
  7. My head is whirling .
  8. Questions.
  9. Not good around here.

Whaaaa??? You would think someone from the vet office would have the decency to contact the owner first, if no other reason than common, decent respect.
So,yes. What Casca said. Juice

That is brutal, but it is standard procedure. I can't see them at least calling and explaining first, though.

Bit someone?
While being treated?
Have these vets never treated a dog before?
Hell, my babyDoggy is only 50 lbs, but if I don't hold her head while they draw blood she gets a muzzle.

I'm sorry for your family's loss Roger.
That's a double blow. Personally, I would have preferred if they had cremated the dog and said "oops, that's what we thought you wanted".

What morons.
I am certain that - even after passing - the dog was still his property and they would need to get his approval before doing that. It sounds very suspicious.

I doubt any legal actions will come from this, but I am certain that it leaves two holes in your son's heart.

I am so sorry. I can only (dimly) imagine what your family is going through right now. If it was one of my pets... I'm just so sorry.
