Virus

Ratbastard worms
Until about 3 weeks ago I had never seen this Windows DEP warning.  The program looks for stuff crawling around in your memory attic, and assumes the worst.  With increasing regularity it began popping up until it happened a dozen times daily.  Shutting down explorer.exe is as good as shutting down your computer, because you have to reboot in order to get start menus back.  Things got so bad that I looked into removing DEP.  I'd done a scan with Avast! and nothing showed up. In the process of researching it however, I kept seeing phrases like "DEP, something Microsoft got right.''   I did another Avast! scan with the setting on ''High.''  This was excruciatingly slow, but - Eek - look what it found hiding in a file I use to save order receipts.!  After removing them, and reloading a lot of drivers (like MP3 decoders), all of these problems went away.  My guess is that I picked this virus up during a foray using Bearshare (nearly everything you get from it is infected).  Anyway, just so you know that my life is not as easy as I make it look.  Sigh.

Ahhh, your life not easy as it looks? Say it ain't so! Interesting post, thanks. And if you haven't see this one yet, it should, at least, provide a grin.

P.S. don't forget to try out the main menu there, also. It's a kick!
