San Francisco Snobs

Equals
All pigs are equal

Habitat for Humanity faces fight in wealthy community

A group of residents in the pricey Marin County community of Strawberry are mobilizing against an affordable housing plan by the renowned charity Habitat for Humanity, saying it would blight their neighborhood.

The group is convinced that the plan to build four three-bedroom units of low-income housing in their neighborhood would result in increased traffic and parking congestion and lower property values.

About three dozen residents ... .

In my erstwhiles I worked with a OTC drug broker in the Boston area.  This guy was right out of "The Last Hurrah," and steeped in Boston politics.  A great story teller, he regaled me with inside stories, many about the Kennedys whom he worked for every election. One involved Edward, who he did not particularly admire.  When a public housing project was slated for Brookline, home to the Kennedy compound, guess who led the charge to have it stopped?  Yup.  The most equal pig of all.

Lil' piggies all in a row, just as good a place as any to run a recipe idea by you.

Fire Roasted Sweet Peppers*
1 lrg yellow
1 lrg orange
1 lrg red
1 bermuda onion (optional)
Granulated garlic
Mrs. Dash (the regular stand by one)
Kosher salt grains
Fresh grnd blk pepper
Mango Habanero sauce**

Slice peppers in half length-wise, remove stem and seeds. Slice peppers in length-wise strips about 3/8” – ½” wide. If using onion, slice into rings and then half them. Place into a bowl and add 1-2 TBL olive oil. All ingredients are season to taste, as any home kitchen chef would do. Place one open slotted grilling pan (found ours at Bed Bath Beyond for 5 bucks) on hot bbq grill and let it heat up sufficiently, then toss in peppers- onion mix. Close bbq lid. Shake or toss until done to your likeness. We kinda prefer some of them blackened. STG, the house will fill with one fine aroma just by entering with this dish! Serve as a side or over grilled meat instead of mushrooms. Mmmm good. Hope you likey!
