WASHINGTON — Texas mayors say they will express their concerns about a border fence to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff next week, as Republicans in Congress push the Bush administration to build the barrier.

"Throwing money at the issue does not solve the problem," said Eagle Pass Mayor Chad Foster. "A fence, a wall — that is an antiquated solution to a 21st-century challenge.  A fella up North had the solution ... Border Wardens!  Won't cost the gummint a nickel, and not a single greaser will make it to Laredo.

I made that last part up, but it's a lot smarter than spending (7) billions on a fence that will only spoil the view of Mexico for thousands of Americans.  Even the East Germans figured out that without machine guns the Berlin Wall was useless.  But first things first.  I can't believe this petition doesn't already have 50 million signatures.  Let's show the power of the Barn Army!  Hooooah!

Let me play devil's advocate for a moment. There's more to the Border Patrol officers' convictions than most people know.

If they hadn't picked up their empty shell casings and kept mum about the incident, they wouldn't be in this mess. Their real crime wasn't shooting at a drug runner, it was obstruction of justice.

That's the part that gets left out. I would like to commend the guys for chasing off a bad guy. Unfortunately, they covered up a significant incident. Have your doubts? Look it up-- the internet is yours.

Anon: Then why were they convicted of assault with serious bodily injury and a civil rights violation and not obstruction? There may be more to this case, but the fact is a drug dealing illegal alien who had drugs on him, failed to stop for the agents. They shot him. They are now going to jail.

From what I found, it was the want to get out of paper work and a supervisor who wanted a name for herself that forced all this.

No matter how you look at it. It is a miscarriage and these two should have their convictions removed.
