Rodger, here's to hoping someone in your neck of the woods knows where to find this stuff. Of course, there's always the internet. Try Amazon, too.

...looks like the Germans and the Japanese are at it again!

And there's the urban myth about the guy who mistook wasabi for guacamole and went into cardiac arrest after a large spoonful ...

We're not on the cutting edge here in mid-Ohio, but we've been using Inglehoffer stone ground mustard for more than a few years. Good stuff.

One day I took the GF to lunch at a Japanese restaurant. She'd lived in Japan for a time she said, and loved sushi. This was back in the mid Eighties, when sushi was first making inroads Stateside. I had yakitori, she had the sushi. I sat and listened to her preach about sushi, how good it was for you, etc. She ate it all, then picked up a smallish green lump on one corner of the tray, put it in her mouth, chewed it once or twice, then swallowed it. I kept a neutral face, but watched her closely. She turned beet red, then hurriedly left the table, running to the little girl's room. I waited 'til she'd left before laughing my head off. It was wasabi, of course.

I was served a plate of shaved horseradish at a dinner with clients. Mistaking it for cole slaw, I took a big fork full and damn near croaked.

I kid you not: I just spent a week at my Dad's in West Virginia and they had it at the Super WalMart there...
