I have lived in the Jacksonville area for 32 years. Some of the paper mills used to smell when the wind was right but that was over 20 years ago. But a story is a story and the facts should never get in the way.

Juice, which Garmin did you buy? I run a Yahoo group for 76C/76CS/76Cx/76CSx users.
Probably the smell from the turpentine factory drifting down from Brunswick Georgia just to the north.I was stationed there in 1960 and I remember it well.In later years I learned that St.Simon Island just outside of town was the home of Jim Brown of football fame.(I lived in Cleveland for a while)
Which park did he sleep in?

Been to Fairbanks several times. Um, Fairbanks is not really that bad. Very friendly people cuz they don't get too many visitors.
Aroma-wise, nothing I've smelled beats Tacoma, WA.
I'd put Portland OR on the worst list. Bitterly cold in winter, rains all the time and very, very hostile people toward non-OR folks.(Notice my West Coast orientation)
Well, this is interesting. we live in a city previously dubbed "Armpit of America." Although I do find it boring here, we have a great home and fabulous neighbors. Really great neighbors. Nonetheless....
We were looking for a new "home for a bunny" (kids book title) and just returned yesterday from driving all the way to Satellite Beach,FL from the Sacramento, CA area. There's no place like home when exhausted doesn't explain the drain. America is beautiful country, but driving past cattle stock yards in hot weather was worse than the pig farms we past in Germany.
Juice.
Cool. I've been using Garmin stuff for about 6 years now so if you have any questions...
And WTF is Blogger putting my comments before everyone elses?
TFV~~ although you didn't own a Garmin, you mentioned it in blog comments and that is what we bought. That GPS was a tremendous help to locate fuel, food, lodging, etc, in unknown territories. Thanks for the tip!
Lt.Tailgunner~~ I believe it was you who mentioned the female GPS voice your wife heard in the car. That was great fun. To gain a real sense of travel, we chose various accented voices. The Aussie's were the most fun! Thanks for your input also.
Hats off to ~~Tim~~ who allowed us to meet in person and give us an historical afternoon in his neck of the woods.
Rodger, remember John LeCarre's, Smiley's People? Your blog has offered us "Rodger's People" and they are among the best! Of course. :D
ooops...passed in Germany.
A1,
We bought the Garmin Nuvi 350 via yahoo shop from ERWINCOMP.COM. The vendor price and service were outstanding! The product? Never even looked at the instructs. If you're computer literate, it's just that simple to use.
Casca.....Jim Brown had been back in Cleveland recently with his 'Amer-I-Can' program.
Oregonians are hostile because most of the immigrants are Californian Socialist Moonbats.
They move up here to flee the results of their policies ... we get a bit nasty when they insist on shitting in our beds because there is too much shit in their own beds right now.
Once in a while, A San Diego or NorCal conservative gets killed in friendly fire incidents.
I don't remember JAX being all that bad. Manatees in the St. Johns River. Jax Beach. The Hooters at Jacksonville Landing. What more could you really want?
A paper mill isn't half as bad as living next to an industrial hog farm in North Carolina.
Speaking as a Marylander, the worst city in MD has to be Salisbury. Smells like chicken shit and is crawling with illegal aliens. That's pretty much true of the whole eastern shore south of Delaware.
I grew up and spent the first 30 years just South to Gary. In the Summer when we'd get a thunderstorm, the wind would change and the stink would roll in.
It's better now because most all the industry is gone. Still a damn hellhole and not a place for the faint of heart.
Moved back to that area after I got out of the Army in '89 and went to college in Gary. Unfriggin' real how screwed up that place is.
Stuck around about a week after I graduated.

Ah, yes- unless the sobriquet has been bestowed more than once, that would be good 'ol Terre Haute, where I was born & raised.....where you can learn all about the Third World and never leave the American midwest. I was down there visiting Mom earlier this week, and passing an intersection in West Terre Haute (the community on the West bank of the Wabash for people who couldn't figure out how to swim the river....and where one big eye in the middle of the forehead is the norm) noticed that the street signs said "Eculid" and "Micheals." And, no, I am not making that up.....
WTF, just hit me, this guy must have never heard of Detroit. Detroit is the asshole of North America. Not only is it in Michigan... well if you've ever been there, you know.

Fairbanks?? That's right, it's dark all year here and we all live in igloos.
Too cold for the homeless though. We're probably the most well armed civilized community on earth too.
