Speaker Hankey beamed with pride yesterday. She announced her victory over Big Business to the world! "The Employee Free Choice Act puts democracy back in the workplace so the decision to join a union can be made by the workers the union would represent," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told colleagues. "This is the standard right that we routinely demand for workers around the world. We should accept no less a standard here in America." –Washington Post, 2 March 2007 The Washington Post described this bill as a top legislative priority. It was one of the reasons that the AFL-CIO gave Nancy and her cohorts their sealed, fat envelopes prior to election 2006. I’ll say this for Speaker Pelosi, she’s at least smart enough to water her base. Republican Eric Cantor committed the egregious sin of calling it like he saw it. He laid on the scathing criticism and suggested a moniker for the bill that would more accurately describe its intended effects. “Republican Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) suggested it be called, "The American Worker Compulsion Act," arguing that union organizers could bully workers into signing cards.” -Minority report The good news is President Bush has promised to veto it, and by golly I think he might.  I would love to hear democrats go before the voters and explain how using a secret ballot to vote on union matters is an egregious affront to liberty, while letting a union thug watch how you vote is a good thing.  Shame on the media for giving her a pass on this.
