How the Brits lost their stones

How the Brits lost their stones
Powerline via a tip from Inspector Jack. The post just below that one is ''No smoking, we're British"
BTW, do you know why Iran let those Brits go? It sure as hell wasn't a goodwwill gesture, as the left media is spinning. No, the ruling mullah's looked out the window and saw the Nimitz, and that was that. It's called the ''Reagan Doctrine.''

Iran got what they wanted...

Friction between the U.S. and Britain.

I dont think it is a terminal case because we are still the closest allies, but I would hate to see the continued success of such tactics.

I really do not believe it has caused very much political friction between our countries. I think many Americans are disgusted with the conduct of these 15 I know I am.

I would like to believe I would hold out better than they did, but don't judge them until your heads been on the chopping block. Truthfully I don't think they would have been able to take me alive, and almost surely some of them would have met Allah Rite quick like.

Check this out...Sinking the Royal Navy (this article was written in Jan 07!)
www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=10896

"Things get worse for the Royal Navy on closer inspection: it now has no Harrier fighter aircraft to fly off the remaining carriers. Of its three remaining major bases, one may be closed shortly. It has been suggested that the most likely target for closure is Portsmouth, the most historic of Britain's Naval ports, where Nelson's Victory is preserved. There are apparently plans afoot to turn Portsmouth base and dockyards into a theme park."

Makes you think of Mao Zedong and his "paper tiger" rhetoric... In this case England fits the bill.

Amazing that Britain can't afford a military defence. I read the London Sun online and am always impressed at the price of homes bought by 'average' Brits and to read in Yank papers of the businesses bought by Brit companies. I can't believe that Great Britain is broke and I hate to say this about our 'best' ally, but is this a lot of 'po talk',which works just fine as long as the good ole USA is still covering everybodies ass in the entire free world. I was actually naive enough to think that since the 'cold war' is over, our Europeon and Asian friends would take up some of the burden of their own defence. I guess they must actually all be Leftists who believe it's time to put away the guns and be 'good' boys and play nice. They're in for one hell of a surprise before the Islamofascists are through with their gross mischief.

My comment on this one is up on GOC

http://www.grouchyoldcripple.com/

Denny put the title "The Sun Has Set" on it. I originally titled it

"This England never did, nor never shall, Lie at the proud foot of a conqueror." (The operative word there being Lie)

Long long ago, in another life, in a land far, far away, I was in a bar in Hong Kong. My ship was participating in a SEATO training exercise with several British Royal Navy and Australian Royal Australian Navy ships. On this occasion, a number of Brits and Aussies, together with us Yanks, were enjoying a few rounds of "adult beverages" and generally enjoying each others' company. One of the Brits stood, and offered a toast: "May there always be an England!" One of the Aussies replied, "There will be, mate, as long as there's a United States!"
