Virginia Tech Shooting

Uh, Larry? Call your office.

An armed society is a polite society
Gun bill gets shot down by panel
HB 1572, which would have allowed handguns on college campuses, died in subcommittee.

A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly.

House Bill 1572 didn't get through the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. It died Monday in the subcommittee stage, the first of several hurdles bills must overcome before becoming laws.

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus." - Roanoke Times, Tuesday, January 31, 2006

If you have any gun related purchases to make, now would be the time. Count on some very lousy legislation forthcoming.

If you're talking about MD, that's a foregone conclusion. But let me ax them ... would there be 22+ dead at Tech if just one of them had been carrying? Would the gunman have even chanced it if he knew it was likely he'd face quick retribution? I don't think so.

How about a ban on Mondays?

With more dead than wounded, he was likely going slowly, taking close headshots, not spraying. If three or four students or teachers were carrying in the first classroom, the carnage would have stopped much sooner. Surprise motherfucker! bangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbang bang.

Well, what's gonna be this raging lunatic's story? Pissed off Left Winger? Fanatical Islamo hater of Christians/Jews? Illegal immigrant with a grudge? Evidently a poor, broken hearted, juvenile, asshole boyfriend so spiritless than he couldn't take bad luck in romance. This crap with these disgruntled boyfriends is becoming more common these days. What the hell kind of environment are these whining, crybabies growing up in?...More in the ever growing sissification of America.

JMcD - probably the first time the loser schmuck had a dose of reality, which kicked out all the flimsy props from his self esteem that his idiot pussy teachers had been shoring him up with all these years. Welcome to reality kiddies. It's a tough world out there.

Since there are more good people than bad, everyone should have a gun. Chlorine for the gene pool. Have you noticed they haven't released the shooters name or affiliation? Hmmm? Does this tell you anything about the shooter? And the MSM?

I get the feeling it will be another follower of Islame. I could be wrong but i will see.

Agree with, Tailgunner dick. Good people should be armed so bad people don't get the drop on innocents. Unfortunately, I can already hear Libs screaming for gun control.

JMcD, As for that whole self-esteem issue? It surely keeps boys from becoming men of honor earned. My sick meter is leaning toward the crazy, jealous boyfriend. BTW, the shooter wasn't that "Asian Guy." The cops handcuffed that idiot reporter for getting in their hair (non-compliance)no doubt.

I've been watching FOX and nobody seems to be mentioning HB 1572. Why's that I wonder? Also some ijit reporter was saying that the punk was carrying an automatic when in fact he had two wussy 9mm semi-automatic pistols. I so wish these punks would try this S**t around me. See how he likes .45 caliber holes in his head. But they are cowards and won't face someone with a chance of taking them down. Instead they kill children. I pray for the kids and their families. Jeez I wish I'd been there.

Watch out for copycat shooters. Finals are coming up, and the stress can push some over the edge.

It's a good time to be packing, legal or not.

As a practical matter, New Jersey should be bright red. You can get a carry permit in Jersey "for good cause shown." That means, you can get a carry permit, if you've been seriously wounded on three separate occasions by a gang of Ninjas, you were born on an even numbered date in March during a leap year, and you carry a can of plaid paint in your back pocket.

Maryland's the same way, Jim. Move to New Hampshire. When's the last time you heard of a mass shooting in New Hampshire?

Always is a good time to be packing. I believe the Old West way is true. When the law can't be there it falls to the individual to ensure safety and justice.

Wouldn't it have reduced carnage if there had been an INTELLIGENT response from the school administration as well? The first shootings were reported at 7:15 a.m. and it was only at 9:26 a.m. that the e-mail notification went out to the faculty and students, and still classes were not canceled. That to me is not acceptable response.

And damned straight it's a good time to be packing. The way things are going in this country, all times are good times to be packing!

Saw this at Clayton Cramer's blog...

"[If] someone commits mass murder with a weapon other than a gun, the national news media usually ignore it. For example, Hector Escudero started a fire at a casino in Puerto Rico in December 1987 as part of labor union activism, and killed 96 people. Julio Gonzalez threw $1 worth of gasoline into an illegal night club in New York City in April 1990 to get back at his girlfriend, and killed 87 people. These stories received almost no national news coverage at the time--while mass murders that were substantially smaller received vastly more coverage."
