"Heeey Man!..You don't hafta filet mine!..I like it a little stringy."
How serendipitous is this? I pop into Rodg's to see if he's got any bird pictures, and oh yes, top of the page.
So, currently, and I mean RIGHT NOW, I've a duck in my backyard. That's a first. Fine looking bird too, and quite placid.
RE: the Wikipedia reference: The eagle feather may play a comparable role to Native American religions as the crucifix plays to the Christian religion or the Koran to the Islamic religion.
Also the reference to the 25,000 fine for illegal possession of an eagle feather...flush a Koran down the toilet and it's a federal investigation; defile a crucifix and nothing happens.
I lived in Alaska for six years doing aviation weather... they have some pretty wacky laws pertaining to wildlife. Our favorite way to cross the tundra was by "dirt" bike. On one memorable occasion after walking out from our fish camp to our bikes, a friend of mine found that his Kawasaki had had it's gas tank mauled (almost eaten) by a Grizzly bear. When a state ranger found out about it, because the bike had a plastic gas tank, he tried to bring him up on charges of deliberately feeding a bear a toxic substance. I kid you not.
When I clean fish, all I get for an audience are seagulls and pelicans.
Waiting for a handout. That eagle must have flown in from Canada.
I watched a PETA protestor at a hunter's check in station get arrested for having such a feather hanging from her car mirror ...
The fish and game person demanded it, brought in a cop to back him up. She felt that such wildlife regs didn't apply to her, and resisted.
Heh ... they threw the book at her, and seized and sold her car.
Yea the law always applies to the regular people not them.
Bald eagle? Stringier than whooping crane, but a lot more meat. Both taste fishy.

Mostly Cajun
Wonder what the penalty is for feeding toxic antifreeze to stupid state park rangers? What a dumbass.
Mostly Cajun--
Does it cook up like Spotted Owl?
Bald Eagles taste just like Snail Darters.
If you boil your owl, cook it til the beak removes easily and the eyes are opaque and gelatinous. At that point your owl will be tender enough to run thru a meat grinder...Bon appetit!
Had whooping crane one year when I lived out in Texas. They were swarming over a peanut field that had been recently harvested and me and a friend shot 2 of them with 12 gauges...they crashed like C-130s. Roasted over an open fire, they weren't bad, but I'd be an unhappy camper if I paid for such a meal in a diner.
Oh yeah..."endangered species," my aching ass. Those things are everywhere.
