Indigo

Indigo Bunting

Mother Teresa sent me this flickr set that a friend of hers maintains. These are from rural western Virginia. We have all of them in our own yard, except for this guy. I thought it was a blue bird, not having seen one around here, although everyone else has.

Thanks so much for this post. I believed I must've imagined seeing a bird of this color while in Narvarre, FL, March '07. I've never seen any bird that shade of blue on this W.Coast.
I've now looked it up in my Birds of North America book. I wasn't seeing things afterall, following a late night BBQ/Drinks!

How come you get all the cool birds and down in Texas the greatest country the world has ever seen...all we get is those damn mean and pesky Mockingbirds.

I've had all the birds pictured visit us except the indigo bunting. I've seen but one of them in my life, on a fishing trip along the James River. It would great to have one come to our feeders. OTOH, we've had Rufus Sided Towhees, Cedar Waxwings, Evening Grosbeaks and Baltimore Orioles visit. Didn't get any nice pictures like that though.
