The downside to losing the worst Bush appointee since Christie Todd Whitman is that democrats will use the resignation as proof of a Bush/Gonzales conspiracy to fire those incompetent/rebellious US Attorneys, and I'll have to listen to it. In addition, it is another case where democrats criminalized politics in order to destroy an opponent's reputation. I'm afraid only a flamethrower will cure them of that.   Mike Allen's story goes on to say that leaving Clement (he clerked for Scalia) as acting AG will "avoid a bruising confirmation fight." This is what I would do, STG.  Nominate Ann Coulter as AG.  She would never get out of committee, but the hearings would be the best entertainment coming out of Washington since John Mitchell's wife Martha was on her rampage.  Ponder if you will a Kennedy-Coulter face-off.  OMFG!
