In the pre-Christmas hub-bub I
neglected to post on a number of stories that left me less than filled
with peace and love. Like this, from December 6th.

16, 2007 -- Celebrated author Mark Steyn has been summoned to appear
before two Canadian judicial panels on charges linked to his book
“America Alone."
The book, a No. 1 bestseller in Canada, argues that Western nations are
succumbing to an Islamist imperialist threat. The fact that charges
based on it are proceeding apace proves his point.
Steyn, who won the 2006 Eric Breindel Journalism Award (co-sponsored by
The Post and its parent, News Corp), writes for dozens of publications
on several continents. After the Canadian general-interest magazine
Maclean's reprinted a chapter from the book, five Muslim law-school
students, acting through the auspices of the Canadian Islamic Congress,
demanded that the magazine be punished for spreading “hatred and
contempt" for Muslims.
The plaintiffs allege that Maclean's advocated, among other things, the
notion that Islamic culture is incompatible with Canada's liberalized,
Western civilization. They insist such a notion is untrue and, in
effect, want opinions like that banned from publication.
Two separate panels, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal and the
Canadian Human Rights Commission, have agreed to hear the case. These
bodies are empowered to hear and rule on cases of purported “hate

Within days similar stories were
coming from Britain, indeed from all Europe. Now I'm deluged with
even more Stalinist thought control tactic stories, especially the
persecution of another Canadian, Ezra Levant. Vilmar e-mailed me the whole deal in this nice little package.

A Canadian man, Ezra Levant, is in front of a human
rights tribunal in Alberta, Canada for posting those mohammed cartoons from a
couple of years ago. Seems the Canadian Muslims were pissed off at the gall he
showed by publishing them and filed a complaint.
Here are four videos of his inquisition.
Yes...inquisition...because that's the only word that applies right now. You'd
think we were in the 15th Century. In the first he files an opening statement in which he
tells the moron sitting across from him that he is unbowed and will not accept
the validity of their organization.

In the second, his inquisitor wants to know his intent
in publishing the images. His response to her is a classic! This guy will end
up ranking at the top for orators of the early 21st
Century.

The third video is where he points out exactly who is
causing hatred and fear in the world through their violence. The inquisitor
seems all wrapped up in how actions like his cause muslims to be offended and
hurt and vulnerable to contempt. He points out that it is not his cartoons
that cause hatred but people like the radical islamic terrorist who firebombed
synagogue.
