It's the music, dickweed

People at the liquor store are always asking, "Hey Rodge, why is it that today's kids are so pliable, and manipulated by their ratbastardcommie teachers, and the MFCS media?  We weren't"
One word.  Rap music, acid rock, and all that other crap music. Take this test.  What's your favorite song?  Can you hum it?  No?  Then it ain't music, it's mind altering poop.  That's why it's more important than ever to reject today's insidious (so called) music, and movies (commie-prop), and bathe in a culture that Washington, Jefferson, R.E. Lee, and Reagan loved.  Like this.

There, you feel like an American again, don't you?

I just tried to hum Jimmi Hendrix's version of "The Star Spangled Banner"...I think I tore a vocal cord.

"Rap" is to music as pro wrestling is to organized sports.

Much of the source of teen angst and violence comes into their lives in plain brown rappers.

I'm working on a whole new genre of music for us aging boomers. It's called "Hip-replacement Hop."
This is after developing the music of "Suburban Hip Hop" under my rapper name Scoop Doggy Doo.

Rap is one of the few English words pronounced with silent 'C'.

I can't hardly stand any of "today's music" but I have to admit, I couldn't get Feist out of my head for about a month.....

"1,2,3, tell me that you love me more...."

Talk about a hummer....

Precisely. "Can you hum it?" is the test for music versus noise. And here, people, is where Rod Stewart gets kicked to the curb. All lead-in, no music.

no problem humming bob marleys "three little birds".

For years now, I've listened almost exclusively to Radio Paradise. Where I first heard Feist. And plenty of new music that is eminently hummable. And some of the oldies. This guy is a segue genius.

If this seems like a commercial, I'm sorry. I meant to share what I think is one of the Internet's treasures, and you can listen for free.

I've been addicted to a band called Hem. Their lush orchestration, lyrics which are thoughtful and reminiscent and Sally's beautiful, pure voice are an amazing blend. It's such a rare thing to find music being written FOR ADULTS. Not in a pseudo-intellectual way, but instead in a way that simply respects the listener. It makes me think.

For instance, "half acre": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lR0CWvbl51o

I am holding half an acre
Torn from the map of Michigan
And folded in this scrap of paper
Is the land I grew in

Think of every town you've lived in
Every room you lay your head
And what is it that you remember

Do you carry every sadness with you
Every hour your heart was broken
Every night the fear and darkness
Lay down with you...

It's like lullabies for adults.

Here's an official video, "red wing": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFQrH9w8VM4

"Rabbit Songs" is their first album and IMO is their best, followed by "Eveningland".

You have the right idea, but your example is a bit on the random side. My listening is rarely any later than something composed before 1826 (the year Beethoven died).
