That cartoon is flawed. If you read the quote, it's obvious that he thinks that there are 58 states ("...one left to go.") Just change 57 to 58 in the toon and it becomes more accurate and even funnier.

Actually, he thinks there are 60 states. "I've been to 57 states, one left to go. I wanted to go to Alaska and Hawaii but they wouldn't let me."
