GOP Stunned By Loss in Mississippi

In a major blow to national Republicans, a Mississippi congressional seat that once voted for President Bush by a twenty-five point margin elected a Democrat on Tuesday. Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers beat out Republican candidate Greg Davis, the mayor of Southaven, by a 54%-46% margin, a spread that several Republican strategists on Capitol Hill characterized as a startling wake-up call for a party in dire straits. 		”
This has been happening all over so fasten your seat belts. I don't know any of the particulars here, but my guess is Greg Davis was acting more like John McCain than Ronald Reagan.  Republicans who maintain their conservative integrity seldom lose these races, a fact that the current Republican leadership has been too stupid to understand.

Southaven is a bedroom community of Memphis, TN, my old hometown of 30+ years. Persons fleeing bad government in Memphis have managed to carry the same stupidity with them to their new locale. Seems like some people never learn to flush the crapper and when they get pissed and move wonder why the crapper gets full again ... Vice Sgt Boone

A big problem was turnout. We had 2 or 3 run-off elections prior to this one, so there was voter fatigue. As of 6:00 PM yesterday at my polling place, my vote was the 460th one recorded. That's a VERY small percentage of the registered voters in my precinct (with one hour to go before the polls closed). Greg Davis had a few issues (he had raised taxes as Mayor) but the Dem had his share of issues as well. They both ran as (small c) conservatives. People are idiots - which is why Operation Chaos has worried me so much.

A bigger problem, nationwide, is that Republicans are thoroughly disgusted with the so-called Republicans currently serving, almost all of whom are eunuchs!

When the Pubies were the majority party, they genuflected (or bent over) regularly for the mouthy, shrill and hateful demagoguery of the Dems. It's a habit of mind that isn't going to change. Therefore, we need to get rid of this bunch of boneheads and get us some new sheriffs in town!
