Free Death Card

From the BBC

‘Available in pubs, banks, libraries, GP surgeries, even some churches, the Advanced Decision to Refuse Treatment (ADRT) card sits snugly in a wallet or purse and instructs a doctor to withhold treatment should the carrier lose the capacity to make decisions, because of an accident or illness.

Dubbed the “right-to-die card”, it’s being seen by some as a short-cut to euthanasia. But its backers say it is a practical way of implementing the Mental Capacity Act, which came into force in 2007. [seen by some as a short-cut to euthanasia.]
Side stepping  moral arguments about this sort of thing,  I'll instead ask: Do you think this would be happening if the state had not assumed the role of health care provider?

And, do you doubt for a moment that the media will more and more portray snuffing yourself as a heroic act?

Fasten seats belts.

Well, with current world politics, perhaps death is an option:

Hey! This could turn pickpockets into assassins! Slip this into your congressman's pocket, collide with him in traffic, and bingo!

It might. Since care in ICUs and other facilities for care of people in a vegetative state is so expensive, I can imagine insurers cutting people a break in their premiums if they agreed to a DNR order or a cut-off of care in case of a vegetative state.

DKDay, here, I think, is where your logic breaks down.

1) Without gummint "sponsorship," much of the squandered health care resources you, in fact, refer to, wouldn't be.

2) The high cost of health care is directly attributable to government socialization of health care. It is gummint who will feel pressure to "cut overhead" in order to save their seat in congress.

3) With notable exceptions (like Mengele, Kevorkian, and Howard Dean), euthanasia runs counter to the very fiber of health professionals, who tend to take seriously their oaths to "never do harm to anyone. To please no one will I prescribe a deadly drug nor give advice which may cause his death."

Only a gummint commissar will swing that sword.

Britain is trying to institute use of a 'carbon credit card' I understand...Plan is to fine anyone who pays for petrol, electrical utilities, that sort of thing without sweeping their "card".....Could be dangerous I suppose...Guy might accidently sweep his "refuse treatment" card by mistake...Govie'd probably send out a squad to 'carbonicide' him.Of course, they would dispose of the body in an environmentally friendly manner.

In the next phase, they eliminate the need to sign the card...
then issue boxes of 'em to emergency rooms.
