Ban the Nan

'Bout time! It's got to start somewhere. Back in the 80's when smoking was first being banned on airlines and X-tra taxes assigned to the product, I complained to my lefty-liberal Aunt and Uncle. They immediately sited the extra cost on the "health care system." (yep, always with the hot button lines). As they scoured at my unintelligent conservative disagreement I stated simply, "I believe it's fair to seek out any group to create a punishment tax." No, I'd quit smoking my hard pack Marlboroughs back in '74.
Leave it to the "enlightened" Libs to "DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE!"

CORRECTION above! That's I believe it's UNFAIR to seek punishment taxes.

All I have to say is...." KEEP YOUR LAWS OFF MY BODY! "

I struggle. I must admit. As a libertarian (note the small-l) I support the right of a small business ower to run his business as he sees fit. If he allows smoking in his restaurant, I have a right to not go there.

But TN recently passes a "no smoking in restaurant law." And you know what? Restaurants don't stink anymore, and I can taste my food, not cigarette smoke when I eat.

I'm conflicted.

As long as the gummint mandates warning signs, here's one.

"Freedom may result in inconveniences."

Am I missing something here? In the original post, e-Claire questions "draconic". The more popular word would be "draconian", after the Greek system of laws that were considered rather severe. But "draconic" (see second entry) is a perfectly cromulent word.

That's the only thing that seemed off to me. Perhaps I'm overlooking the bigger picture?
