The new leftist patriotism

HARVARD WRITER: ABOLISH FREE SPEECH
Woman claims First Amendment threatens liberalism

A student writer at Harvard University is raising eyebrows after publishing her belief that free speech on campus should be abolished and professors with opposing views be fired.
Sandra Corn
I’ve often said that the best thing about Hamas is that they say what they think. None of the two-faced English vs. Arabic stuff we get from the ‘moderate’ PLO. They say they want to kill us, because they mean it. So for the same reason, I enjoyed the Harvard Crimson piece by Sandra Y. L. Korn, “The Doctrine of Academic Freedom.” Korn is not ashamed to put forth the idea that academic freedom should be limited when it conflicts with the political prejudices of the “university community”: - Jewish Press
, a senior who writes a column for the Harvard Crimson newspaper, thinks radical leftism is the only permissible political philosophy, and the First Amendment only hinders colleges from brainwashing students with her viewpoint.

“Let’s give up on academic freedom in favor of justice,” states the subtitle of her Feb. 18 column, in which she insists Harvard stop guaranteeing students and professors the right to hold controversial views and conduct research putting liberalism in a negative light.

“If our university community opposes racism, sexism, and heterosexism, why should we put up with research that counters our goals?” Korn asks.

[Full Wonderment]

If only we had nuked Woodstock like I suggested. Sigh.

More First Amendment Stifling

Police State Culture

Let's Play "Can You Top This?"

Happy Birfday SondraK

Santa Clara County, Calif., officials have banned a 20-year employee from making “less than positive” remarks about Obamacare, because they can cause stress for listening co-workers.

The county made the stunning move when Norina Mooney was chatting with a co-worker about the Affordable Care Act,  according to the Pacific Justice Institute, which is representing the woman.

Santa Clara County must have missed this.
Happy Birfday SondraK

We have it seems reached the point where citizens ought be arrested and fined for not crushing public employees who act like this.  Like trash compactor crushing.

Stuff That Makes Me Puke
Res Ipsa Loquitor

With the decline of the authority of Judeo-Christian values in the West, many people stopped looking to external sources of moral standards in order to decide what is right and wrong. Instead of being guided by God, the Bible and religion, great numbers -- in Western Europe, the great majority -- have looked elsewhere for moral and social guidelines.

Obama administration Pentagon appointees met with anti-Christian extremist Mikey Weinstein to develop court-martial procedures to punish Christians in the military who express or share their faith. HERE

For many millions in the twentieth century, those guidelines were provided by Marxism, Communism, Fascism or Nazism. For many millions today, those guidelines are . feelings. With the ascendancy of leftist values that has followed the decline of Judeo-Christian religion, personal feelings have supplanted universal standards. In fact, feelings are the major unifying characteristic among contemporary liberal positions. Dennis Prager

U.S. District Judge Edward Korman (Ronald Reagan!) of New York had given the Food and Drug Administration until Monday to lift all age limits on Plan B and cheaper generic. The judge mandated that emergency contraception be sold just like aspirin.  HERE

The Lady...
Res Ipsa Loquitor

One would naturally think it impossible that anyone would hesitate – even for an instant – to honor the woman who tackled communism head on as prime minister of Great Britain. Lady Margaret Thatcher was a principled politician who helped to foster the special relationship between Great Britain and the United States that we all benefit from today.

A Senate resolution to honor Lady Thatcher was supposed to pass last night.  However, per well placed sources on the Hill, Democrats have a hold on the resolution. [full]

Gore Vidal RIP (Ahem)

RIP

He's With Ted Kennedy Now

[Via Wiki] During discussions of the 1968 Democratic National Convention protests, Buckley and Vidal were arguing about freedom of speech with regard to American protesters displaying a Viet Cong flag when Vidal told Buckley to "shut up a minute" and, in response to Buckley's reference to "pro-Nazi" protesters, went on to say: "As far as I'm concerned, the only sort of pro-crypto-Nazi I can think of is yourself." The visibly livid Buckley replied, "Now listen, you queer. Stop calling me a crypto-Nazi, or I'll sock you in the goddamn face and you'll stay plastered."   Buckley later expressed regret for having called Vidal a "queer," but nonetheless described Vidal as an "evangelist for bisexuality."

I would go on that year to vote for Humphrey, but near as I can remember this was my first exposure to Buckley.  I went on a binge of checking out Buckley books from the library with profound effect on my already conservative leaning self.   Hubert was the last democrat I ever voted for.

Vidal didn't leave much impression on me one way or another.  Forgetting this  kerfuffle entirely,  I quite enjoyed reading  his Burr, Lincoln and to some extent 1876.  Myra Breckenridge was the last time I checked out a Vidal book. I grew to loathe the man.  Not because he was a publicly promiscuous bisexual; that goes without saying, but because he was the poster boy liberal.  Arrogant, snotty, and blamed the United States for everything.  Here's a clip from a recent  NPR paean
The word heterosexual is an adjective, the word homosexual is an adjective. They describe an activity. Of course there's a homosexual activity; of course there's a heterosexual activity. But there's no homosexual person. There's no heterosexual person. Everybody is everything.

It's like saying oh, I want you to meet Mildred, this is potato-eating Mildred. Oh my God, she eats - I'm sorry, but I don't want to be at the same table with a potato-eater. Sorry, Mildred, but some other time. Now that's - only a country that is based upon an extremely primitive religion, which is Christianity, I am a devoted enemy of monotheism in all of its forms, could have come with a categorizing of people as one thing or the other.

In Europe, these distinctions are not only not known, but we're thought to be mad. Latins just roar with laughter. ... And I was actually stopped all day long by Italians, these villagers, saying what kind of country is this. And I said, well, it's a very primitive country, the United States, and it's full of superstitions, which come out of a very fundamental religious bias, which is primitive Christianity.

And since they have enough votes to terrify the more sophisticated people who run the country, these are some of the bones that they get thrown - like prayer in the schools and abortion and all subjects which have nothing to do with the federal government, but they see to it that it does. No, no, we're kind of a joke.

He's with Ted Kennedy now.

California Burnin'

Calif. set to adopt sweeping
cap-and-trade rules

California’s cap-and-trade rules would set up the largest U.S. carbon trading market as the way to enforce the state’s gradually tightening cap on emissions.

California Burnin'
California Burnin'

The next logical step for California is building a fence across its border (the border that runs north/south) to keep people from escaping.  I don't expect to get an answer, but I would genuinely like to hear from just one California resident who thinks this is a good idea, and why.  Srsly.

Also, I'm every bit Obama's equal as a constitutional scholar, although maybe not on par with actual constitutional scholars, and here's my thinking.  There is a tension between the principles set forth, as expressed in the Preamble, Bill of Rights, etc, in our founding documents, and what is actually constructed by the three branches of government supposedly governed by them.  Individual state constitutions must be in harmony with the master plan, but in California's case the tension became so great that its government broke.  Snapped in two.  It seems to me, then, that it is every Californian's sacred patriotic duty to physically restore order --  at the point of many, many guns if necessary (and it will be).

As for the rest of the nation, it's imperative that we wean ourselves from any reliance on that state's produce, both food and silicon.  Too unreliable. And for God's sake, don't give that bum any money; it'll just be spent on whatever the hell got her that way.

... other forces are at work.

"This is not science;
other forces are at work."
- Hal Lewis

This is not science; other forces are at work -H Lewis

This is an important moment in science history. I would describe it as a letter on the scale of Martin Luther, nailing his 95 theses to the Wittenburg church door. It is worthy of repeating this letter in entirety on every blog that discusses science. Anthony Watts

It's not necessary for everybody to get so wrapped up in the science of the global warming fraud that it distracts from life, especially when people like Anthony Watts do it for us.  It is necessary that we know the truth about what's been going on however.  The resignation of a previously strong advocate of man caused climate change was a major big deal in that community, yet garnered nary a mention in the Algore media. I don't think any of us, me included, appreciate just how close we came, and still could, to abject slavery.

While Copenhagen and its excesses rage, a quiet revolution is starting.

Indeed, not so quiet now. It looks like it is getting ugly inside with the public airing of the resignation of a very prominent member who writes:

I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist.
    …
In the interim the ClimateGate scandal broke into the news, and the machinations of the principal alarmists were revealed to the world. It was a fraud on a scale I have never seen, and I lack the words to describe its enormity. Effect on the APS position: none. None at all. This is not science; other forces are at work.- Hal Lewis

Thomas Sowell's Pessimism

"Doomsters are a dime a dozen. But when a leading economist who's been called "the nation's greatest contemporary philosopher" sees serious trouble ahead, we'd better listen up.

Sowell sees the national equivalent of a "perfect storm," a gathering of "dangerous forces (that) have been building .. . for at least a half-century."

Yes, he says, our great nation has weathered many storms. But, he quickly notes, so did the Roman Empire before it collapsed. "Is that where America is headed?" Sowell asks upfront. "I believe it is. Our only saving grace is that we are not there yet - and that nothing is inevitable until it happens."......

The Obama administration "is not the root cause of the ominous dangers that face this country at home and aboard," Sowell says. But "it is the embodiment, the personification and the culmination of dangerous trends that began decades ago. Moreover, it has escalated those dangers to what may be a point of no return.  [Sowell's Pessimism]

Boned Jello
Opinions about the nexus of that perfect storm are also a dime a dozen, and in my case free of charge.  August 9, 1974.  The Nixon  bloodless coup.   Sowell's fifty-year parameter takes us to JFK's election, in effect the beginning of The Great Society.  Hard to argue that too.

Secession is still the only course of action I can think of.  Things will still be tough, but at least "we" will have the opportunity to rebuild without the constraints and gloom imposed by statist government. And, we'll have hope where none now exists.

I get mail

Coulter to Keynote for
Homosexualist GOPride

MoFiZiX  asked me to comment on the announcement that Ann Coulter will be keynote speaker at  the first annual "Homocon."  While AC often speaks for me, it would be presumptions for me to turn that  table, but what the hell.
  • Neither Ann nor I are what we used to call "pussy-footers;" a term that now refers to foot fetishists, I imagine.  You always know where we stand, if you pay attention.
  • We (me and MoSup  -- Ann was not involved that night) have a gay son - with a gay partner, whom our entire family love with all our hearts.
  • We do not sign on to the activist gay agenda that includes sanctified gay marriage, although we would attend their  ceremony out of love and respect. It would hold for us no legal significance, whatever that might entail.
  • We believe that,  given the unique situational demands faced by the military, "Don't ask, don't tell," is  reasonable.  The same goes for women in  roles that place them in close quarters with men in combat. In other words, common sense trumps PC.
  • Read the article, and you decide.  Would you accept their invitation?  I would.  And I'd prolly be snarky at times, but respectful.

Integral to Liberal efforts to frame the debate, is turning opponents into caricatures; stereotyped images that distract from actual issues.   At the risk of using a murky example, I just a few minutes ago ran across this strip. It's been jumping up and down in my head, and I have to let it out.  I think it's analogous to the Ann Coulter issue.

Boned Jello
As a final, snarky, aside ... of course Obama is against gay marriage.  Muslims execute homosexuals.

Lock and Load - onliest thing left

People at the liquor store are saying, "Well one good thing Rodge, there can't possibly be any more examples of Liberal perfidy left to make me want to stab myself in the liver."
Oh Really?

In fact, this alleged [Anchor Baby]  right derives only from a footnote slyly slipped into a Supreme Court opinion by Justice Brennan in 1982. You might say it snuck in when no one was looking, and now we have to let it stay.  [The She]

No More Juice Please

Attack Israel, Collect $400 Million

Boned Jello
The USA promises a new financial aid package for Gaza, which means Hamas:

Obama described the situation in Gaza as “unsustainable”, saying a better approach was needed and calling for a “new conceptual framework” for Israel’s blockade. A White House statement said the new funds “represent a down payment on the United States’ commitment to Palestinians in Gaza, who deserve a better life and expanded opportunities, and the chance to take part in building a viable, independent state of Palestine, together with those who live in the West Bank”.

The money will go towards infrastructure projects in both Gaza and the West Bank, including $10m for the construction of new UN schools. It did not explain how the schools will be built while Israel maintains its embargo on construction materials entering Gaza, claiming they could be diverted to make weapons and build underground bunkers.
    [full Chicago Boy Jonathon]

(Yes a work in progress, I can't edit stuff that's not posted.  I'm not a good practice player)
Today's Seed Hypothesis: I think there's something else besides raw antisemitism at work here.  I don't mean Obama specifically.  I mean on a global scale.   Think  about it.   It's something entirely in character for Liberals to do. They, with the arrogance to think they can step in front of the bulldozer (that is Earth's 4.54 billion years of continuing evolution), and make it stop.  Oh yeah. To them, Israel is the Carbon Dioxide which elimination will allow the region to cool down.  True, the Arab states  are also CO2, but there are more of them, and they have the influence oil wealth provides. Oh, and Islamos have vowed to kill everyone who defends Israel.  The juice have made no such counter threat, so what the heck. If  one of the two belligerents must go?  Israel.  It's not a Sophie's Choice deal; she loved both children equally.  No, it's just a regular surrender to what they perceive to be the greater threat too them personally, and  Liberals are the planet's designated surrender monkeys.

Women Hanging Around

THE MOST HATED WOMEN
IN AMERICAN HISTORY

Boned Jello

Drudge yesterday bannered Pelosi  as "'MOST POWERFUL WOMAN IN AMERICAN HISTORY,"  since modified to "IN 100 YEARS.  I could rejoin with Edith Wilson, but it would be a quibble, so let's  stipulate Pelosi's status.  But, she is also, unquestionably,  "THE MOST HATED WOMAN IN AMERICAN HISTORY."  Here, in descending order, and certified by the National Bureau of Certifications and Grammy Award winners, is the list of Most Hated Women in America EVER (Carrie Nation just missed). In a more enlightened time, all of them would have been burned like a steak (Ethel was grilled to perfection).
  1. Nancy Pelosi
  2. Madalyn Murray O'Hair: America's Erstwhile Most Hated Woman
  3. Hillary Clinton
  4. Margaret Sanger
  5. Jane Fonda
  6. National Organization for Women womyn
  7. Ethel Rosenberg
  8. Barbara Boxer
  9. Maxine Waters
  10. Lindsey Graham

ASIDE: Mo SUP just returned from watching my 1 yr. old granddaughter's swimming lesson.  The audience watched from behind a two-way  mirror.  She reported this cell phone conversation by a grandmotherly-aged woman, who seemed to be talking to a progressive-minded friend.

Woman:  Well, yes, something had to be done, I agree, but this is a bad bill. (pause) Harry? Oh, heavens no.  He hates Pelosi's guts.  Just hates her.

Let My Toons Go!

Politically Correct Tom & Jerry
rewriting history

All Political Correctness does is define new classes of victim hood, and reasons for grievance.  I despise it in any form.  Tom & Jerry cartoons seem to have especially felt the wrath of public scolds.  The "Mammy maid" character appeared in many T&J toons.  During the purge, Black actress Lillian Randolph’s voice was replaced by White actress June Foray.  Since the studios  kept pictures and sound reels separately, the voice sometimes didn’t match up the correct Tom & Jerry version when the white maid spoke with Mammy’s voice.  This is all quite insane.  I've gathered some examples below.  Here's some commentary.

Puss Gets the Boot" (10 Feb 1940) Puss Gets the Boot" (Re-engineered)
Mammy's voice was redubbed fairly early on (before they started using the white maid voice), in the original, Mammy says "O-W-T...Out!" & later in the cartoon “O-U-W-T…Out! In the edited version, she spells it correctly ("O-U-T").

After Jerry climbs the washboard, Mammy looks for a burgler and is attacked by Tom, all these shots get removed.
The scene on the record player has a section removed from the middle.
The part where Jerry gets a tail full of record needles and a record lands on Tom's head making him look Chinese, followed by Jerry mocking Tom is hacked out.

The SEALS

The Good,

Boned Jello

It would be interesting to create a poll with these two photos and have people guess what's happening.

I suspect that most would never assume anything close to the real story. It appears to be a joyous homecoming, a reuniting of mother and son. The truth is not so heart warming.

The lady in the picture is the mother of an American that was ambushed in Fallujah , Iraq. Her son was murdered. His body was dragged around in the streets of the city, then burned and hung from the upper trusses of a bridge. The murderers gathered to celebrate and have their photos taken with the trophy.

The young sailor in the picture is one of the Navy SEALs that later captured the leader of the band of terrorist butchers and brought him to justice.

If the story ended there, it would still be an acceptable feel-good, good-guys-win story. Unfortunately, that's not the case - this Navy SEAL is facing criminal charges.
The Bad
Because, somewhere along the timeline of his capture, the terrorist murderer suffered a school-yard fat lip, his captors are now being charged with nothing short of war crimes and facing discharge and imprisonment.

So, instead of celebration of justice served and heroes honored, these photos record betrayal, compounded mourning and the effects of a corrupting sickness.
The Barn Army's R.W. Forsythe forwarded this in an e-mail; I found the entire text here.  I figure most of you are aware of this case - it's not the sort of thing you forget.   Today the WaTimes editorializes, "You're for the SEALs, or you're for the terrorists."  It's black & white.  You're either disgusted by this, or you're someone who's dead to me.

An actor who thinks? Whoa!

Rewriting the Bible as if it were the health care bill

Enter Stage Right

Oh, they say they're Christian, that they're Progressive Catholic like the Vice-President, Joe Biden and Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi or they're Progressive Baptist like Bill Clinton … or Progressive  … uh … Protestant … like Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton … oh, these Progressive Christians … rewriting the Bible as if it were the health care bill … and, in both cases, making the "Public Option" their main objective.

Basically the public option is the government as an increasingly, all-powerful god.

So aren't these so-called Progressive Christians just wearing God down, pulling away the authority invested in Him by the Holy Bible and replacing the Almighty God with the increasingly Almighty Federal Government?

Of course, they are.

Actor Michael Moriarity scores salient points here, meaning of course that I agree with him.  Some random clips.

- The sleaziest and smarmiest of America's Progressive Know-it-alls are those who still claim to practice some form of Christianity.

- If you believe in God … or consider the possibility that He even exists … you must at least and increasingly see the Progressive Movement as mainly a cunning and serpentine seduction, a soft and cooing courtship to increasingly obvious forms of atheism.

- Yes, Progressive Catholics can not only rewrite the Bible like a health care bill but make Biblical history with even another destruction of an Israeli Jerusalem.

- Even the oldest corners of History, despite Progressive efforts at rewriting everything, will keep repeating themselves, which, of course, means that even after being destroyed, Israel will rebuild itself.

- Obama's seemingly unavoidable trips down paths already stumbled on in recent history by the likes of Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter, are being accompanied by shouts from the White House that Fox is not, indeed, proclaiming the historically obvious but, instead, is bent upon sabotaging any Democratic Presidency.

- Despite the Harvard degree and the recent Nobel Peace Prize, President Barack Obama is proving himself to be not only one of the dimmest bulbs on the White House Christmas tree, but the depth of his narcissistic pride is only akin to that of the mythical Icarus.   [Full Article]

I'm going to believe that Moriarity left Law & Order because he could no longer abide reading from the show's Progressive scripts.
