BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki did not back the plan of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama
to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq and his comments to a German magazine
on the issue were misunderstood, the government's spokesman said on
Sunday.
Ali al-Dabbagh said in a statement that Maliki's remarks to Der Spiegel were translated incorrectly.

What a freaking surprise. Last Monday the BBC admitted that a ballyhooed call for withdrawal of American troops by Iraqi
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's never happened - but had been
"mistranslated." A scant five days later, just as Barack Hussein
Obama visits anti-terror battle zones, including Iraq, the Spiegel asserts that "Maliki supports Obama's plan." Now, just a day later, said Krauts admit a "mistranslation"
occurred. The Iraqi government doesn't support Obama. It actually
wants to execute the Kook from Kenya. Okay, ignore that
last part. Maliki would never say that publicly.
So what's happened here?
A series of false stories showing support, by the Iraqi gummint, for
Lord Obama's magical mystery plans are discredited. No harm, no
foul right? Wrong.
The Democrat's cynical calculus
to seize power uses media allies to splash bold lies across the
airwaves. When these assertions are later quietly
disavowed on page 23 of their print media, it's still mission
accomplished. These tactics transcend "political shenanigans,"
and fall squarely into the realm of "government overthrow."
