When we were stupid

Yesterday

The old National Lampoon used to have a back page featuring offbeat news items.  I only remember two.  One was the story of some mob guy who was being taken "for a ride." He was sandwiched between his two would-be executioners when the car hit a bump and the two hiitmeisters shot each other.  One was killed, the other became a quadriplegic.  I think the intended victim sent him flowers. But that's not the one I'm going to tell you about.

The second was about a  a roach killer manufactured by a Mexican company, and called 'The Last Supper."  There was such outrage over this sacrilege that the product was refused entry into the United Sates, and production was shut down by the Mexican gummint.  Of course that was back when we were still backwater thinkers. Now that sort of respect is only shown for Muhammad.

I remember the same National Lampoon story about the hitmen. The best part is that the victim sends the paraplegic new batteries for his wheelchair every year with the message "Keep rolling."

When we were stupid? If only we could be stupid once again. What's it gonna take?
