Ayn Rand Daily

Today's Star

I was going to bed and then I ran across this sentence in "Atlas Shrugged." I got up to come back here and write it down.
When men reduce their virtues to the approximate, then evil acquires the force of an absolute, when loyalty to an unyielding purpose is dropped by the virtuous, it's picked up by scoundrels--and you get the indecent spectacle of a cringing, bargaining, traitorous good and a self-righteously uncompromising evil.

That's about as good a description of the state of America today as I can imagine. [some guy]

I should dig out my copy for probably the 10th reading-I sure need to have my spirits cheered up although I did see today that McCain has finally taken his testicles out of the freezer. I hope he tears Obama a new one tomorrow.

I have the Objectivism Research CDROM which has almost all of Rand's work in searchable form. Very handy for finding quotes.

I walked into the flightline lounge, and felt right at home.

The Fountainhead was on TCM this morning. Patricia Neal was smokin' in her youth.

Thanks for reminding me of those prophetic words by Ayn Rand. I think the example of a "cringing, bargaining, traitorous good" is the executives of AIG and other companies hauled up before Congress, the victims of Congress...and the spectacle of "a self-righteously uncompromising evil" is Barney Frank and Barack Obama.

As Rand would say, I think, the real villain is the businessmen who do not defend themselves and who do not stand up for their right to earn a profit.
