Muslim Prisoners

SCOTUS SAYS ......
The Supreme Court said Tuesday that a Muslim inmate cannot sue the government over the disappearance of the prisoner's copies of the Koran and a prayer rug.

In a 5-4 ruling, the justices said the federal law the inmate relied on prohibits lawsuits against federal corrections officers.

Abdus-Shahid M.S. Ali says the missing books and rug reflect widespread harassment against Muslim inmates in federal, state and local prisons stemming from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"Reports from all over the country have come in" on Muslims' religious property that "has been destroyed, confiscated, looted, lost, stolen or taken without cause," Ali said in the lawsuit he filed in federal court.

Ali is serving a sentence of 20 years to life in prison for committing first-degree murder in the District of Columbia.

I won't say the obvious about what I think about Ali's "rights," but will instead point to this -

"... federal law the inmate relied on prohibits lawsuits against federal corrections officers."

- and ask Justices Stephen Breyer, Anthony Kennedy, David Souter and John Paul Stevens how then do they explain their votes?  If they can't, it's prima facie evidence for impeaching them.

Fred should stick this in his speech, too.

Fred's Gambit

Hi, I'm Fred Thompson

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- It appears Fred Thompson's presidential bid may be over after his last stand in South Carolina failed to get him any higher than third place. Thompson will not be participating in the Thursday night Republican debate and has not campaigned in the next battleground states since the Saturday night primary.

I've been thinking of a way - a last chance, go-for-broke gambit - that would salvage Fred Thompson's campaign.  I think one of the things he's missing is a national persona.  Here's what I'd like to see him do ... Take every penny he has and blitz evening television with a spot that conveys this message.

I'm Fred Thompson.  You may not even know I'm running for president, because there's been a media blackout of my campaign.  Why?  The media elite see me as the closest thing to Ronald Reagan, and that scares the hell out of them.  Here's what I believe ...  ___Insert here______.  Here's what I don't belive.  ___Insert man made global warming_____

If you want a pandering pimp for president, then you want  McCain or Huckabee.   If you want a leader, it's me.  Here's where I stand, then.  If I don't win the Florida primary, I'll have to quit unless I receive $40 million dollars in campaigh contributions immediately.  Otherwise, I won't have to say "go fuck yourselves"; you'll have already done it.

Thank you, good night, and God bless America.

China Threat

Chinese food - for thought

Last week's confrontation between a Chinese attack submarine and destroyer, and the Navy aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk in the Taiwan Straights is another in a series of wake-up calls to the Chinese threat. It gains added poignancy with the release of this paper which is consistent with what China watchers have been warning about for the past 10 years.  Couple that with the threat of a President Hilly Clinton, and hie you to the bathroom before you soil your pantaloons.

In a hypothetical future scenario, the U.S. and China are poised to clash — likely over Taiwan.

The democratic Republic of China, commonly called Taiwan — which America backs and the communist People’s Republic of China considers part of its territory — frequently irritates Chinese leaders with calls for greater independence from the mainland. But while the American military mulls its options, Chinese missiles hit runways, fuel lines, barracks and supply depots at U.S. Air Force bases in Japan and South Korea. Long-range warheads destroy American satellites, crippling Air Force surveillance and communication networks. A nuclear fireball erupts high above the Pacific Ocean, ionizing the atmosphere and scrambling radars and radio feeds.

This is China’s anti-U.S. sucker punch strategy. (cont)

This article from the Taipei Times in 2005 caught my attention, and is I believe still operative.

When you come down to it, China would be a lot easier to take out economically than most countries imagine. A country no longer needs an army to take out China -- one would not even have to place a single soldier in the country. All a country would have to do is to take out key energy and industrial locations and it would implode. This is a vulnerability that even Japan and other countries in the region could exploit when threatened by China. [World must wake to China threat]

Americans Abroad Can Now Vote Online

MEXICO CITY (AP) - This year, for the first time, expatriate Democrats can cast their ballots on the Internet in a presidential primary for people living outside the United States.

Democrats Abroad, an official branch of the party representing overseas voters, will hold its first global presidential preference primary from Feb. 5 to 12, with ex-pats selecting the candidate of their choice by Internet as well as fax, mail and in-person at polling places in more than 100 countries....  Blah-blah-blah

I'll bet I know what you're saying to yourself.

"Oh great, Democrats will use this "successful" experiment to extend it to general elections.  That way the illegal alien problem is no longer an issue, because the entire world will be defacto US citizens.  Yippee."

Am I right?

Who's up? Not Al Franken

Say Rodge, What about Al Franken?

Franken is known for saying that Karl Rove and Lewis Libby should be “executed,” called Rush Limbaugh a “big fat idiot,” threatened to sue the author of a book about liberal hypocrisy, called the founder of Air America a “crook” — and demonstrated his support for free speech by physically assaulting a heckler at a political rally.

He has also stated: “I’m a comedian first and foremost, which some people think that doesn’t give me the right to do what I’m doing.”

Franken’s first challenge will be to win the nomination of Minnesota’s Democratic Party, called the Democratic Farmer Labor Party, which begins its caucuses on Feb. 5 and will pick its nominee on June 7.

His opponent is wealthy trial lawyer Mike Ciresi, whose supporters believe he is less polarizing and stands a better chance than Franken of beating Republican Coleman in the general election, ABC News reports.  - NewsMax
