Montana's Challenge

This is right out of the movie "The Second Civil War"  While the plot there was ostensibly a rebellion against immigration policy, its scope covered constitutional overreaching by the Federal gummint.
Montana-made guns may form the basis for a court showdown over states' rights if the governor signs a bill to release some firearms in the state from federal regulation.

The proposed law aims to exempt firearms, weapons components and ammunition made in Montana and kept in Montana from federal gun laws. Since the state has few gun laws of its own, the legislation would allow some gunowners and sellers in the state to skirt registration, licensing requirements and background checks entirely.

The question is, will a governor who bragged that he  rigged the 2006 Montana elections in favor of the Democrat Party sign it? .

I'm sure this is not the kind of thing "proud NRA member" and Montana firearms manufacturer Dan Cooper had in mind when he threw his support behind Obama. No, since Dan doesn't make handguns or "assault rifles", he'd love to see more regulations, not fewer. Dan thinks the sooner the Messiah implements his gun control vision and forces Dan's competition into bankruptcy the better for Dan.

He does make a fine line of "sniper rifles" though, which is a term I'm sure we'll be seeing in the next gun haters' bill.

"UPDATE: The Board of Directors and Employees Cooper Firearms of Montana has asked Dan Cooper to step down as CEO. This was the correct move for Cooper Arms to undertake. I’m satisfied with it, provided there is follow through."

My #2 son is a senior trooper on the Montana Highway Patrol - 19-plus years - and has had the misfortune to have been assigned to drive Schweitzer to various locations in and around the Capitol City of Helena. He absolutely does NOT like him, at all, at all. Says he is arrogant and flaunts his wealth and seems to think he owns the biggest part of Whitefish, where he maintains his permanent home, and the most of the Flathead Valley.
