A thumb in that position when firing a semi-auto will tear it up, sprain it, or break it as the slide comes back at very high speed. You know, pain.
It's important to get these things right, since cartoons, TV, and movies are how most people get their marksmanship training.

Most honest folks go to a range, and can at least get a clue there.
Crims learn gun-handling by watching popular entertainment.
I support anything that make criminals shoot poorly and hurt themselves. -
