The cluster farg continues

Gee ... you mean I can't get a '74 Pinto from a junkyard, put tags on it, and get the feds to pay $6k of my new car loan?
What a rip-off ... as if I should be expected to pay for something myself. - 7/30/09, 11:01 PM

So what happens when we reach the limit for the cash-for-tickers government heart surgery initiative?

Stick, same thing! You are dependent on Uncle Sugar, so you die.
Last summer, the engine rebuilders were running out of old engine cores because they were all on a slow boat to China. They had to scour out of state to find cores. Now, the blocks will have the crankshafts welded in place because they are run without oil. Not economical to re-build.
Kristopher, You have to have owned, licensed and insured the vehicle for the previous year, so no junk-yard hunting allowed.
Wait for the dearth of decent used cars next week...
This was a cluster-eff from the get go. No one knew the rules, you had to apply as a dealer, and the money is now gone. Someone greased a palm somewhere, and some dealers got to the head of the line... wonder if they got all the moolah.

It's still a clusterf*ck.
They also demanded the car be less than 10 years old ... so a bunch of 1999 to 200x model year cars get crushed instead of being sold to working folks.
Just a lame-assed subsidy for government auto collectives 1 and 2. - 7/31/09, 11:45 AM

I was just watching Glenn Beck and he found the most amazing thing. When the dealers log onto the government website it has rules of use listed and whatever 'puter you are using at the time becomes gummint property for said use time. The gummint has the authority to copy, check, confiscate anything on said computer if it is used to complete the clunkers transaction. Kinda nice to know.
