More of a reach under than a roll over.

Rog, do you remember about 1996 or 8 when MD Dems got lazy, didn't turn out to vote and Republican Sauerbrea (sp?) almost won the Goverenorship? The next election they didn't make the same mistake and won easily.
Now with other Dems all over the country vulnerable will that complacency be there and allow the good guys to take some more long-held seats? We may only get one shot. Yesterday may have awakened them and they won't assume anything- or will they still assume themselves to be secure until it's too late like Coakley did?

Barney Frank Deals Potential Death Blow to Obamacare........
Yep...I knew he'd blow someone...er something.
"Geez. Croakley cut the cheese...Anybody got a fan..This shoe ain't gonna do."
Not to worry AWM. We won't be catching the D's by surprise. We're going to find enough of them in a state of disaffection with the Kenyan. Brown not only got the lion's share of independents. He pulled D's too in enough numbers to make it hurt. 5% is a landslide anywhere. In Mass it's the splitting of a continent.

This is a complete 180. I wonder how long it will last?

AWM - RE Ellen Sauerbrey - it had nothing to do with light democrat turnout. See Filthy MD Democrats

A tip of the hat to the Boston Globe on its "Dewey Defeats Truman" moment.
Great shoeleather journalism, guys.
Where would we be without you?
Educational as ever, Rog. I wasn't paying too much attention to politics at the time.
As I recall Dem turnout was said to be low because Dems just assumed Glendening would win. The "close call" with Sauerbrey spooked them and next election they didn't take it for granted and turned out for a more decisive (and possibly even honest) win.
My point is in long-held places the Dems can be caught off-guard much the way Brown just did it. Coakley didn't consider him dangerous and MD Dems weren't worried about Sauerbrey. Their overconfidence can be used to sneak up and pass them before they realize they are even in danger if it's played right. There were other factors in Brown's win, but Coakley's overconfidence was in the top 3, IMHO. Knowing Dems, even after this many of them still are.
