Le-a

Just for fun stuff

A school teacher friend sent this to me. This is a child's name!

"Le - a"

How would you pronounce this as a child's name???

Leah?? NO

Lee - A?? NOPE

Lay - a?? NO

Lei?? Guess Again.

Are you resorting to tongue clicks yet??

It's pronounced "Ledasha" oh yes...you read it right. The dash is not silent.

This child attends a school in Livingston Parish. (Louisiana)

Her mother is irate because everyone is getting her name wrong. SO, if you see something come across your desk like this please remember to pronounce the dash. When the mother was asked about the pronunciation of the name, she said "the dash don't be silent."
Frank & Evvy - Snopes says "undetermined,"  but it would not be that unusual - in the overall landscape.

A good friend who was an ob-gyn in a city clinic once tried to talk a mother out of naming her new born girl, Clamidia. She was unsuccessful.

It's always said that mary - sometimes it takes awhile for the comment to get posted. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Aquanetta!!!

My favorite, tho perhaps apocryphical, is Nosmo King.

This is true: Once worked with Sanncha, who would get truly miffed when someone didn't call her Sanya. My thought is, you wanna be called Dave, don't spell it Bob.

i can confirm this with mine own eyes. as well as orangejello and lemonjello. I have seen both dental files and met la-a, all in new orleans. hooray for culture

Re Clamidia: My wife, who was a maternity ward nurse at the time, once takled a woman out of naming her baby daughter Vagina. I never understood why she wanted to spoil all the fun.

My favorite of all times was a man who was listed in the Oakland phone book for years named E. Pluribus Eubanks

Mostly Cajun has a weekly feature called "The Name Game" where he looks at the birth announcements and looks for the names that some of these poor, unfortunate kids are going to be saddled with.

"Le - a" would not be out of place with the names he sees.

Lots of Shirley Q. Liquor stuff here.

I work with an AQUANETTA.

Unfortunately I do not know her well enough to ask about her name.

and Yes, she is.

That's funny, but Livingston parish is far more hillbilly than hood. Still, it's not in the realm of absurd. My parents live in Livingston parish, and my Mom taught high school art in Baton Rouge (East Baton Rouge parish) at an "inner city" school (Istrouma High School) for 30 something years. Flopendreka remains my nominee for worst name of all time.

Sorry, but Le-a sounds alot like the urban legend of twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello.
