They don't bury things in Zimbabwe

This, my dear, is hungry

Last week MoSup challenged my statement that nobody in this country knows what hunger is.  No adult, anyway.  I stand by that.

Having been to the third world, I assure you that your initial premise is correct. Aside from those incapable of the most basic care of self (old or mentally ill), there is no starvation here. In other parts of the world you actually look it in the face, disease too.

I remember reading a comment by an Indian immigrant who said something like the following: "The first time I visited America I knew I wanted to live there. I wanted to live where the poor people are fat."

I know what hunger is: 1970's, northeast Ohio, varsity wrestler. I'd cut 12% of body weight in 5 days. It's hard to describe what day 5 was like, but it's way beyond hunger. Lassitude is the word.

Turing word: dedneuti. Yeah, that's what I was looking for.

US Army Ranger School Class 5-95, 6-95 and 7-95...I was in Ranger School for 5 months (normally a 2 month course). I went from 165 lbs to 125 lbs by the time I graduated. I know what hungry is and I never want to be hungry again.

You're a Barn Army kind of guy Chadd, and Samurai AG TFV wants you on her staff, but you knew that by dropping out of Ranger school a Big Mac was yours.

Back in 1954, I made a four day trip to California on a greyhound bus and was forced to decline eating the food at "Post House" restaurants at the bus stops, and lost 15 pounds.
The only decent meal I ate was in Cheyenne, early in the morning at a breakfast stop where there was NO "Post House" available and we ate at a large diner.
Under the circumstances, I've never had food that delicious before or since.
Maybe Greyhound should have instituted "weight lose tours" or "Missions for Masochists".
