A Bad Cop

Maryland, My Maryland.
Story.

Video

Upshot
Because of this story, and others like it, jackass Congressman Edolphus Towns, a Democrat from New York, has introduced legislation to illegally override powers enumerated by the constitution that empower states to make their own damn laws. In the final analysis, it would be a good idea for Trooper Uhler and Rep.. Towns to cancel each other out on the field of honor.

Unmarked car + plain clothes cop + cutting me off and jump out with a gun = somebody getting shot. Might be me, might be him, but it's going to get ugly.

I can't hear well under best conditions and it's worse wearing a helmet. Even if I heard him yell "police" there's a high probability I wouldn't believe him.

I thought plainclothes cops were not allowed to stop cars for just that reason after many cases of scumbags pretending to be cops.

That same Constitution enumerates a citizen's right to a free press -- which in my mind includes the right and power of any citizen, not just "authorized journalists", to collect and disseminate the news, which is what this video is an example of.

The First Amendment has been repeatedly incorporated against the States, in defense of the rights of the people, and several court cases have specifically confirmed the right of the people to film the police as they carry out their public duties. Despite this, police continue to improperly use wiretapping, interfering with police operations, national security, and the ever popular "disturbing the peace" as excuses to punish this legitimate activity.

The proposed bill does not in fact create new law. It is merely "[Expresses] the sense of Congress that the videotaping or photographing of police engaged in potentially abusive activity in a public place should not be prosecuted in State or Federal courts."

It in fact notes that these charges are being brought under misuses of State laws.

That doesn't seem excessive to me at all.

One of the things that really pisses me off about this? According to the CCW class I took, and everything I've read since, drawing a weapon is considered using deadly force; so the Maryland Stasi can apparently use deadly force over a bleeping traffic offense, and it's not a problem for the agency and the prosecutors.
