does that dog look scared to anyone else or just me?

I think the look on the dog's face is less fear and more growing realization that the treats that were promised are not forthcoming.

I'd punch them both in the mouth. (not Farfo)

RKoF -
This reminds me of a time @ 25 years ago when I was hiking with a friend on Mt Griffith above Los Angeles and I saw a guy with a hang-glider strap his German shepard dog to his torso and take a flying leap off a cliff (it all took place fairly quickly). The guy / dog pair did not make it airborne and instead crashed into some bushes just below the summit. The dog looked to be okay afterwards, but we did not stick around to watch the beating (okay, I'm just presuming that happened).
What kind of idiot makes a decision to risk his dog's life like that?

Just to be clear: the presumption was that an angry mob was going to attack the guy (it sure wasn't the dog that deserved a beating).

I wouldn't climb a mountain with a dog.
If he starts to slip, his first reaction is going to be to snatch a mouthful of YOUR body with his long pointy teeth...

If Fido could read this, he'd probably jump...

Yeah, that picture sort of annoys me. There's stupid people who take a bit of advantage of a dogs loyalty. Just because you're a lonely idiot doesn't mean your dog wants to hang glide, or mountain climb, or vote Democrat.

A dog's got to know its limitations. I daresay it has more sense that its owner.

Hum...

That's not a Tibetan Mastiff...

Tibetan Mastiffs herd mountain goats.
You seen mountain goats climb near vertical surfaces? So do the TM.

Also the Norsk Lundehund, or puffin dog have an articulated shoulder like men or monkeys
and do mountain climbing like
Sir Hillary.
They use crack climbing techniques
to do real vertical walls.

and no leash to stop the dog's fall!

My climbing partner and I crested the top of a large vertical ascent in Wyoming several years ago and were met at the top of the climb by a guy and his cocker spaniel that was wearing a custom made climbing harness.

We asked how the hell he got the dog up there. He replied that the dog was a good climber, very sure footed and he had the harness that allowed him to carry the dog over the vertical parts of the climb.

We all descended together. The dog rode down in his harness strapped to his owner who rappelled with us. The whole way down the dog was calm, quiet and did not look scared at all. He seemed to really enjoy the ride.

We moved to another area to climb together. For most of that climb the dog fared better than we did. However, the dog was constantly roped to his owner so if it did fall it had a safety. His owner told us the dog had never fallen.
