Huey Long, Despot

"We fought the revolution with the
tools Mr. Jefferson said we could use."
Betty Carter on Huey Long

I snipped 3 minutes of dialog from PBS's film "Ken Burns / Huey Long." that I think you'll find interesting.  Betty Carter, wife of  Hodding, recalls that when news of Huel Long's assassination by "a man in a white suit" was broadcast, she and half the women in Louisiana feared it was their son or husband.

There is a model in here for how the insurgency should work. To confront the military or police is counterproductive. The snake has few heads, maybe as few as 10,000. Most of them are not elected.
Just thinking out loud, metaphorically, like Thomas Jefferson. You’re right. Not in his league nor pay grade.

The Kingfish was the greatest demagogue this country has ever seen. He rode his populism as far as it would go. Not surprisingly, he made a few enemies along the way.

Anyways, there's more democratic way for our voices to be heard, and it's none too soon.

Interesting, my mind has been in that part of the universe lately. Something has got to give.

On a side note, caught a bio of Frank Costello the mob boss. Huey gave Frank a safe haven for illegal slots in Nawlins.

I liked the "tools Mr. Jefferson gave us ..." part. As an aside, back in 1994 a dude crashed a stolen Cessna 150 onto the South Lawn of the White House. Remember? The pilot was killed. I had a friend who called the house to make sure I was still alive.
